(15,645 posts)job God bless him. Most of us went to college and have had a better life due to his hard work, love for each of us, and thank God that Union job. Unions are the engine of working and middle clas prosperity. Time we prosper again.

(51,590 posts)I had been working at non-union jobs and made crap and was treated like crap. I said that when I change careers (early 1990s) it will be to a union job. I ended up being the union rep at my site. The union literally saved my life when a dangerous health issue in my classroom made my class and me very ill and the union got the building torn down...full of black mold. I was sleeping sitting up in bed and my whole class was on inhalers along with me.
It would really piss me off when the newer, younger teachers got the union's benefits but would never walk the walk. My dad worked for AT&T and I learned about unions while walking on the picket line during a Summer strike. Go unions!!!

(11,686 posts)They were deeply in bed with the administration. My friend worked at the same place and he got really screwed by them.
As long as a union is not working for the organization they are supposed to be protecting you from it is good.
I have talked to people who have had good experience with unions so I know they are out there.

But I keep learning "new" things about that culture.
