crazy here in Ohio
The trump signs in peoples yards is astounding.
Trump 2024 ones popping up all over Ohio.
Its like mass shootings people will never take the blinders off.
I hate my state of Ohio and never had the feeling of leaving it... but its all I think about theses days.
The two worst places to live must be Ohio and Flordia.

(51,282 posts)Gigantic Trump 2020 signs with equally gigantic Dont Blame Me I Voted For Trump
Don't blame you for what?
A successful vaccine rollout? A vaccine rollout at all, since trump had no plan.
Blame you for the $1400 that showed up in your bank account as an economc stimulus. Bet you really hated that.
Blame you for an economy that is taking off?
Blame you for not insulting our allies?
Aww, bet I know. Upset about the order reversing the transgender military ban. Or that we're back in WHO.

(1,000 posts)who have never been tread on in their lives? (but sure don't mind when certain other people are tread on?) I am a huge Poco fan (RIP the lovely Rusty Young, passed this week of a heart attack at 75). One of the founding members of the band, Richie Furray, wrote a song "Don't Tread On Me." He grew up in Yellow Springs, Ohio. I grew up just outside of Yellow Springs about 10 years later. He has never been tread on in his entitled life. Good God it sounded like a parody, only he doesn't have that much self awareness.

They are now Out and Out RACIST symbols - anyone still flying one is a Racist IMO.

(866 posts)Ok, I dont want karma, but since January 20, For Rent and For Sale signs have gone up in front of houses that had huge Trump signs here in Arlington, just outside of DC. The occupants of one of the houses was a crazy family that tore down Biden signs and harassed people. I know there will be an election in 2024, but for now, they are losers.

But I do wish they would take it down. At this point, I think it just looks pathetic.

(402 posts)Plus we also have people with "My Governor is an Idiot" signs. Yeah, she's the idiot for trying to save lives.

(26,260 posts)At one point the front yard was packed with all sorts of MAGAt campaign signs. This is in an older neighborhood - middle to upper middle class homes, built in the early 60's. At one time, in a traditionally reliably red district. Last year it was noticed that the trend is definitely taking a turn.
The only trump* sign in my neighborhood was in the yard of my neighbor with Alzheimer's. Before he developed the condition, he was a strong Democrat.

Siwsan
(26,260 posts)It's a very rural area - old farm land that is now partially taken up by middle class housing developments. Most of the signs were in the yards of the few remaining old farm houses.

(1,000 posts)Logan County for 30 years. They would set their face on fire and put it out with an icepick for the con artist. I now live right off the OSU campus. But dear God, my sister is coming home to Ohio to live from Floriduh, and it will only be a minor improvement. In the local paper they were discussing JD Vance, who wrote "Hillbilly Elegy," running for Senate. Totally dissing him not because he doesn't speak the trumpian line, but because they are pissed about "Hillbilly Elegy." They find it insulting. I am sorry Vance spouts the trumpian drivel, a true leader would tell people what they need to hear instead of what they want to hear. His book was spot on, apparently the truth hurts. The great tragedy of JD Vance is not that he made it out, it is that more kids like him don't, stuck in that life cycle of mean and stupid.

(68,556 posts)lived there in college. My youngest has transferred to Cleveland and my husband has a new job there. We lived in Cleveland before he had a job in Mahoning but that didn't work out so back to Cleveland for us. I like all of Ohio but Cleveland's theater is one of the best in the country and the museums which are mostly free are amazing and of course there is Lake Erie. It is a good place to live. We have a house there. In both Mahoning (Austintown) and Cleveland area, there are tons of Black lives matter signs and other supportive signs human rights oriented signs mixed in with a few Trump signs.
Ohio still has a significant number of Democrats but we also have a gerrymander...one of the worst anywhere and we have a very weak Democratic Party. Ohio went for Bush twice and Obama twice. It is still a swing state. And let me say it is a very affordable state to live in with good housing at decent prices and housing is increasing in value. I am likely to get triple what a I paid for this house three years ago...we needed to go to Cleveland for a job and the kids were at YSU. So I live Ohio and it is worth fighting for. Speaking of YSU it is a great value for kids. And the business program is one of the best in the country.
Trump promised to deliver jobs to this area which was hard hit because of lost manufacturing...he lied. But Democrats had been saying ' the jobs are not coming back'. Well, people need jobs and IMHO this is why Trump won Ohio twice. And now Ford Avon is closing- bad news for Ohio. People still hoped Trump's steel policy and other economic policies which actually hurt the state might pan out eventually. They are wrong. Democrats need to send jobs to this area...hopefully green jobs because the path to the presidency goes through the Mid West...and Ohio is not much different than Pennsylvania when you come down to it or Wisconsin and Michigan. We ignore this region at our own electoral peril.
NJCher
(35,662 posts)can't say as I knew much about Ohio but these are interesting points. Yes, Dems need to come up with a job plan for Ohio.

(567 posts)And the Trump fans have evaporated. They weren't that strong to begin with (he lost Miami-Dade but not by as much as he lost in 2016).
I have no doubt there's still supporters up north and in the panhandle, but there's a reason Florida is a swing state.
Tommymac
(7,263 posts)Florida is Rethug Heaven.
Get rid of your Fascist Racist Governor and Senators and batshit crazy Fed & State Reps and local lunatics and maybe we can re-evaluate.
Until that happens, FL is a Red state through and through.

(6,589 posts)I don't have numbers off the top of my head, but I remember state contests, like governor, that were decided by around 1% or less. I could be wrong but I thought Crist lost by 0.6% or something.
There is hope!!!
Tommymac
(7,263 posts)However I am a person who takes fact into account too.
FLA will not be a real swing state for at least 2 more cycles imo.
I know many peeps there working to change that - gawd bless them and $upport them, I do, but I don't see FLA returning to sanity in my lifetime.
AnrothElf
(567 posts)We came really close to helping elect Hillary and Biden. Miami-Dade and Broward are reliably blue, and make up a huge percentage of the populace.
Don't write Florida off while you court Georgia. There's a lot of blue still in the state.
Tommymac
(7,263 posts)Right now, Florida is frankly not needed to win a national election.
Not when we cannot reliably count on it to be anything but unpredictably batshit crazy.
Clean up the local and state houses then maybe National support will be forthcoming.
Frankly, Georgia, Texas and Missouri are WAYYYYYYYYYYY more promising for the next few cycles.

(6,589 posts)I've lived on the island almost 10 years & I've only met 1 person who lives here who was born in FL. All my neighbors are from the "frozen north" as we call it, states where you have to shovel snow in the winter. Right now if I drive through my neighborhood I'll see 1 Trump flag, 5-6 Ohio State flags, & a couple Michigan State flags. When I moved & was first meeting a whole bunch of my new neighbors (at a block party/BBQ they organize every year) people kept asking "Don't you love it here?" I must have heard that question a dozen times. It surprised me because never before had I encountered folks who were so happy to live where they lived, it was the complete opposite of the "stuck in a dead-end town with nothing to do" feeling that permeated the place where I grew up.
I say all that to make the point that as you said, parts of Florida are a very diverse mix of people from all over the US & from all over the world. We're not all gun-humping Trump-loving rednecks.

(1 post)With the continuous increase in the number of people diagnosed with the new crown epidemic in the United States last year, Bannon has been looking for an excuse to pass on the ineffective prevention and control of the epidemic. The far-right group protects against deportation. As a result, the close ally for many years has allowed the two to co-operate with a female scholar at the University of Hong Kong, Yan Limeng, accepting an interview with YouTube anchor Luther to issue a conspiracy theory about the origin of the new crown virus as a "biochemical weapon of the Chinese Communist Party." However, Yan Limengs "new crown virus" research experience has been rejected by her mentor, Mr. Keiji Fukuda, Dean of the School of Public Health of the University of Hong Kong, and stated that Yans relevant remarks are rumours. "The conspiracy theory was also exposed by the New York Times indefinitely, but the rumors that "the epidemic originated in Asia" spread like a virus in American society, triggering misunderstandings of Asian groups in the American white society.

Once when he was rigged in.. a big sign between 2 palm trees on a golf course, as I was riding by on the bus. Again during the election the big Psycho sign was up high so no one could mess with it during the election. And then on the Day of the Election some arrogant aggressive Magat was walking down an outside corridor where I was.. lugging a big DT sign smoking a damn cigarette.
Didn't say a word.. just thought.. "We'll see, buster!"
