(25,454 posts)As I noted below, pretending we don't know what he's talking about is nearly as bad as the verbal gaffe itself.
Probably worse, frankly, yet "we" do it all the damn time.

(29,198 posts)in fact they want to make it something like $.05/hour... so you have to work 20 hours to make $1.
100,000,000 workers x 20 hours for All-star game (3 day event)... $100,000,000 dollars.
But they are going to have to organize a BIIIG caravan from Central America to hire all that labor.

(2,636 posts)MLB moved one exhibition game. One. with activities spread over three days.
The Braves continue to play all 81 home games, and any playoff games.
The local businesses aren't losing anything they normally count on. It's like not getting a bonus. If not having the All Star Crowd for three days in July costs any one in Atlanta their business, they were going under anyway.
Maybe don't pass fascist voting laws to disenfranchise Urban and Inner City voters to prevent fraud that never happened. Consequences and all....
MLB has no teams in Iowa, so pretty sure they could give a rip what Grassley thinks.
100,000,000 jobs. Atlanta has 2.5 jobs for every resident of California? Didn't know that....

(8,327 posts)Going to have to expand the workforce, probably going to be tough getting 90 million people stuck in that state. should have had them move there before the census, Georgia would have about 130 house seats

(9,475 posts)I think that some of these verbal gaffes are done purposefully because they know a certain percentage of people's impressions will be formed immediately without thinking about it. They can then later admit to the gaffe.
Kind of like Faux News putting a D- next to every no-name Republican that gets caught with his pants down, and then eventually correcting it.
Its done to create a first impression knowing that those first impressions tend to stick more strongly for a lot of people.

(7,396 posts)MLB teams have sporadically played there over the years. Latin America produces so many great ballplayers and eventual expansion to the area would seem to be a no-brainer.
It obviously won't happen in my lifetime, but what baseball fan wouldn't love to go see the Dodgers play in San Juan or the Yankees in Havana. Insert your own team choices as needed.... What a market!

(5,586 posts)The All Star game is not super highly attended in normal times, and it's not going to be heavily attended this year, regardless of where it is.
Atlanta is one of the most progressive, most favorable cities to black Americans in the country. There's a reason Google, Apple, Microsoft, and other companies are investing in their workforce here. The amount of minority job candidates to choose from is much higher, and those companies want to change their workforce demographics.
