WEST HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — A gunman is at large after shots were fired inside a Stop & Shop on Long Island.

Police responded around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday to the grocery store on Cherry Valley Avenue in West Hempstead.

It appears at least three people were wounded, but there’s no official word on injuries.

Tearful employees told CBS2’s Carolyn Gusoff they heard five to six gunshots on the upper level of the store, where the manager’s office is located.

“Incredibly frightening. Nobody knew what was going on. Just ran out the back of the store,” said Kelly Egan, with the Local 342 union. “They’re all quite traumatized. When is this going to stop?”

At best this should be of local importance, if that. This shouldn't get any more notice than a person declaring there First Amendment right to say what's on their mind simply and succinctly.
