As in, if Chauvin is convicted and he wants to file an appeal based on the issues voiced by his attorney, can the state instead offer a plea deal to avoid another trial?
My thoughts are, if Chauvin is paying for his own defense, another trial would be so expensive. Plus, unless he requested a directed verdict, the odds of finding another jury might just be near impossible.
And I know, I'm getting a bit ahead of the situation but my brain is spinning.

(42,031 posts)1. A plea can be reached during deliberations, but not
after the jury has reached a verdict. Too late.
That is my understanding.

Can't happen.
