Help me out here: mask effectiveness against Covid

Before you alert because I am peddling right wing talking points, please read!

I need help countering a right wing talking point.

I had three people I work with, all who never wear a mask try and tell me a new report claims masks are not affective. Yes, they are all trump followers.

My response was what right wing site is touting this. No response. I only found one on a quick google search and it definitely right wing.

So, how many here have had right wingers shouting this?

I am only going to stop wearing a mask when Dr Fauci says I can.
They admitted that flue season was far less severe than normal, but still they believe what they want regardless of facts.

There is no such report-- nothing legit, anyway.

The only way to deal with these people is to say, "Fine. Stay out of my way then. I don't want you to make me sick."

The CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report said mask mandates adopted last year were linked to almost a 2% drop in new COVID cases within 100 days of adoption

3. Is this that "study" that was allegedly done by Stanford scientists?

It's been debunked. It's not peer-reviewed, it's just a hypothesis written by someone who has a very distant association with Stanford.

Penned by Baruch Vainshelboim? It was in an Instagram post accompanied by the user rant claiming it was a peer reviewed Stanford study and demanding to know “why is this not headline news across the globe???”.

So I wasted an hour researching the veracity of this “research paper” and found out no, it isn’t out of Stanford, it isn’t “peer reviewed”, and it’s full of speculative theories, like how masks reduce oxygen flow to the brain (not true), accompanied by fear mongering descriptions of what happens to people getting insufficient oxygen to the brain. Which again, wearing a mask will NOT do.

This “study” was posted on a site called “Medical Hypotheses”, which is a forum for people to postulate and put out theories they have on various scientific topics, with the only criteria being they have coherent and clearly expressed ideas.

There aren't any "new" reports coming out about the masks cause it's been beat to death. The masks are to protect those around you. In Japan they wear masks anytime they have a sniffle, cough, stuffy nose. They are respectful of others.
That is all anyone needs to know. Protect those around you.

If you need that added to your reasons. It's been a year, this is old. Getting old, not like these people just returned from Mars being gone a year. If you don't get it by now....
Had an encounter this morning in a grocery store. I'm just on edge today, had it with the idiots. Mask down over the nose chit chatting with all the associates. Asking what happened to some workers that were there for 20+ yrs. I'm thinking "probably died after exposure to idiots like you."

16. That Report Showed That Masks....

...protect the wearer dramatically!
I think one of the big PR mistakes re: masks was to push the notion that we were doing for others.
If that PR had been protect yourself AND others even the idiot King's intransigence might not have been as damaging.
There were studies as far back as midsummer 2020 showing this result. Why CDC ignored that for so long is frustrating.

The owner had Covid and now thinks he is superman.

Their assertion is that there is "a new report". OK. Have they read it? What is the title? Who wrote it? Where is it published? Etc.
