(62,269 posts)As he didn't think he'd survive a trial.
Barr rejected it, because Trump's constituents are racist fucks, under the guise of "it's too soon to accept a plea deal."
Meanwhile he is likely to serve 20 years for this at the minimum.
That look isn't one of confusion, that is the look of a guilty man, who thought he was above the law, who was free to do whatever he wanted, finally getting justice.

(2,008 posts)included getting off any potential federal civil-rights violation charges (hence the federal involvement), if I remember correctly. Hate to say it, but I found myself agreeing with Barr on that one. (If Amy K can work with Lindsey for the Yazidi women, I'm allowed to agree with Barr once, right?)
I don't know what he's likely to see sentencing-wise, but there is the possibility of longer-than-guidlines sentences due to aggravating circumstances (including presence of children and another is abuse of governmental authority)
From earlier this week, an article about what to expect:

The first is that the scenario happened in front of children. Thats one of the reasons they presented those four children to testify was because it did happen in front of multiple people under age 18, Moran said.
Another condition under which aggravating sentences may be granted is when an abuse of governmental authority is involved in committing the crime.
And here youve got a police officer acting on duty during this incident, Moran said.

(62,269 posts)...but that was bullshit. He let that probe simmer for 10 months. Proving a civil-rights violation is nigh impossible to prove without someone literally being on recording saying they're racist POSs then committing a crime.

(9,005 posts)As a white guy, I've seen so many white cops get away with killing black folk, I expected Chauvin to be acquitted.
We've been killing black folk practically since this country began.
Thank you to those bystanders who recorded George Floyd's murder.

While I would prefer the court sstem always deliver justice in a case so obvious, I am thankful for this conviction.
