(37,060 posts)That officer said she had a knife
womanofthehills
(10,750 posts)She said the girl called 911 because she was being attacked and she had a knife to protect her from the women who were attacking her at the foster home she was living in. She said the girl had dropped the knife on the ground before she was shot. We will find out soon.

(15,522 posts)There is a still shot in the twitter thread that shows the girl going at the other girl's neck with the knife.

(47,245 posts)"That poor little girl was murdered!" (slightly paraphrased)
I posted about a 19-year old girl who attacked a babysitter, and this girl deserves JAIL for beating up (along with her goons,) the babysitter and 1 or two babies.

She had just shoved the girl in the foreground down (right in front of the shooting officer), then turned and chased the girl in pink toward the parked car and was just pulling her arm back apparently to stab the girl in pink when the shots were fired.
A taser would seem to have been more appropriate - assuming the officer was carrying one. But the girl in pink was clearly in danger.

(18,486 posts)BULLSHIT.
That cop shot a child who was wrestling with another person without taking any time to assess the situation or determine whether there was any danger. When he shot the girl, she was nowhere near the girl on the ground - she had run away from her and away from where the cop was standing.
We've gone from "He was in fear of his life" to "He shot her to protect someone else."
BULLSHIT.
MarineCombatEngineer
(17,875 posts)but on this, I think you're wrong, the girl was trying to stab another girl and the cop, IMHO, did what he had to do to save the girl's life.
Unless other evidence comes out debunking the video, I think this was justified.
Just my opinion.

(18,486 posts)open-minded, non-biased police officers here.
But sure - let's give them the benefit of the doubt. Why would we think they did anything wrong?
MarineCombatEngineer
(17,875 posts)but that doesn't change the fact that the cop probably saved the other girls life.
Until I see different, I'm of the opinion that this was a justified shooting.
Again, just my opinion.

(38,409 posts)and was swinging it at the girl in pink.

You can see the knife in her right hand top center pane. If you keep playing the video - which you can find in this tweet:

, she follows through with her swing, the girl in pink puts her leg up to try to block it and rolls along the car and escapes. The shots are fired simultaneously with her swinging the knife at the girl in pink.
Could the police - or someone better skilled in de-escalating called instead - have gotten there earlier? Maybe.
Would the girl in pink have been able to get away had the officer not shot her? - I can't tell.
Given that the police were on the scene - could he have done something else (like a taser)? I don't know.
Assuming the police were yelling blue lives matter (I couldn't tell from the video - but it wouldn't surprise me) -was that appropriate - absolutely not, and any police participating in it should be disciplined.
But it is clear that the girl who was shot was swinging her arm - with a knife in her hand attempting to stab the girl in pink - at the time he shot her.
It is tragic, and may well involve poor police training or equipment, and an utter failure to learn better public safety procedures, but it is not George Floyd.

(6,477 posts)Then berates the cop, "She's a fucking kid, man. Are you stupid?" He was literally trying to kick a person in the head directly in front of a cop with a drawn firearm!
