It is, in some ways, more damaging than the slur that can never be said. It is minimizing, and trivializing AAs who "dare" to take some equality and dignity for themselves. How dare they?

"They bein' UPPITY!"

I'm reasonably sure I must have heard it used in other contexts, but I can't remember one.
