(16,105 posts)That's just good old 'Murikan fun!
Those other people were CLEARLY dangerous criminals...sandwiches, standing in a garage, being in the ER! Everyone knows that's all dangerous activity.
Why would we doubt that these "public servants" are on the level?
Also, good to know they are using their helicopter for "needed services"...FFS.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/24/us/stormy-daniels-columbus-vice-officers.html
Two vice officers were fired on Thursday by the city of Columbus, Ohio, for their role in the wrongful arrest of the pornographic film actress Stormy Daniels at a strip club in 2018, an arrest that a lawyer for Ms. Daniels said was the result of a conspiracy of dunces.
The officers, Steven Rosser and Whitney Lancaster, were found to have violated police rules when they arrested Ms. Daniels on three counts of illegal sexually oriented activity and then lied to internal affairs investigators about the basis for the sting, city officials said.
The charges against Ms. Daniels were dropped within 24 hours, but not before the arrest, at Sirens Gentlemens Club in Columbus, drew national headlines. Ms. Daniels is best known for saying that she had an affair with Donald J. Trump before he was president.
Amid scrutiny that the arrest had been politically motivated, the city later paid $450,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by Ms. Daniels. It also disbanded the troubled vice squad after a federal corruption investigation.
*******
Backstory .... Daniels came back to Columbus and did 3 sold out shows.

(61,608 posts)I grew up near Columbus - decades ago - and it's disappointing to see this. Columbus is a diverse, progressive city.

(70,504 posts)But still a lot of the regular cops are very right wing. I have known some and some were and
are really good people but either generational thoughts and or right wing hate talk has really
effected their thinking. Days off were spent playing golf, drinking beer and listening to Rush
& Hannity.
Although I don't know enough about the current shooting to make a comment on it.

I don't know how long it took for CPD to show up, but they did show up. No arrests.
Police break up large block party near Ohio State campus; several cars flipped over
10 WBNS, 4/18
Police estimated 1,000 people were in attendance of "Chittfest," a large party typically planned every year on Chittenden Avenue between North High Street and Summit Street.
CPD Commander Dennis Jeffrey said that police were aware the event was going to happen but didn't expect this many to attend. The party started to get "out of control" around 10:45 p.m. and multiple officers were sent to the scene.
Edited to add:
This news report says that police arrived at 3 a.m., "hours after the chaos started."

(810 posts)...that the police in this country are out of control and unaccountable. Personally, I think this is all due to the pointless and hopelessly lost War on Drugs.
End the War on Drugs and reform the police.

(9,073 posts)Cop saves a young black girl's life. But nah. "Horrific slaying!"
That hospital story is a peach. I don't think that's one you want to lead with. An armed, intoxicated man. The gun goes off. They use the taser several times.
People are picking some interesting hills to die on these days.
As for the rest, what are the contexts of the shootings? We're told there were shootings and given no details. It's all in the implication.
Sometimes I think there are people who want riots and discord and polarization. Gets more views, gets more outrage, and gets more attention to themselves.
"Horrific slaying."
Jesus.

(11,563 posts)...can have such a different outcome in policing. Victoria, where I live, and Columbus OH are both university towns, similar in size, although Columbus is larger, with a population of about 800,000, while Victoria's is about 670,000.
The stats on police-involved shooting deaths aren't at all similar, though. Columbus has had 32 since 2015, although I don't know how up to date that number is. Good enough for illustration, anyway. Since 2014, Victoria has had 1. In fact, since 1900, it has had that one 2014 death.
What could possibly account for this disparity in any kind of rational way???
