The slowdown in the daily pace of COVID-19 vaccinations has sparked concerns from health experts that a shift in momentum could disrupt hopes of a speedy recovery in the U.S. from the ongoing pandemic.
As the Biden administration touted the accomplishment of administering 200 million vaccine doses, doubling the president's goal of 100 million vaccines administered in his first 100 days in office, the country has seen a drop in the seven-day average of daily vaccinations following weeks of steady upticks.
The U.S. hit a peak in early April of getting 4.63 million COVID-19 vaccines into arms in a single day before Tuesday saw a total of 1.81 million doses administered, according to Our World in Data.
Overall, the seven-day average reached a highpoint of 3.38 million vaccines per day last week before it declined to 3.02 million on Tuesday.
Public health experts warn this deceleration of vaccine administration could jeopardize the country's ability to get the virus under control as variants spread worldwide. It could also signal a decrease in demand due to lack of access or public hesitancy.

(8,285 posts)vaccinated. Which means the daily rate will decline inevitably, not that we are entering another crisis of some kind. This article is good news painted as bad news, essentially.

(7,409 posts)That's way too soon to see the unavoidable downturn that you are describing. This is vaccine hesitancy, pure and simple.

(8,285 posts)It is unlikely that those who received a dose won't get a second. We are doing actually well.

(44,973 posts)I've heard 70,80 and even 90 % mentioned. Also, children under 16 are not yet eligible for vaccination.

(8,285 posts)At this rate, we will likely get that by June for at least one dose
My state is at 55% one dose for 16 yrs +. They seem to be able to hit 70% at around May 1st. I think the worry of the those that refuse shouldn't really begin until vaccine appointments really become more plentiful. Which once again should be around May 1st and May 15th.

(11,949 posts)We cant and wont go on for years doing what we willingly been doing for the last year. I wont. It appears 25 percent will never get the vaccine. Or so they say. But once they are the only ones dying many may change their minds.
Yeah, their stupidity may mean we science believers will have to get yearly booster because of continued mutation in the idiots among us. But we are getting good at cranking out the vaccines.
And a year ago I would never had posted something this harsh because I did not believe it: it will mainly be the most flat-earth conservatives among us that keep dying. I now see that as an upside. And Im not sorry for feeling that way.
