Eric Boehlert: The week Fox News craved street violence in Minneapolis

https://pressrun.media/p/the-week-fox-news-craved-street-violence

An overwhelming majority of Americans support the guilty verdict that was reached in the Minneapolis trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin, who killed George Floyd one year ago, by kneeling on his neck for nine minutes while the Black man begged for his life. At Fox News though, the trial outcome was met with hysterical condemnations — it was an "attack on civilization," Tucker Carlson warned. It was "mob justice," announced Candace Owens.

The trial’s conclusion did not spark civil unrest. Instead, solemn scenes of candlelight tributes played out across the city. Robbed of the chance to demonize the Black Lives Matter movement — robbed of the chance of scaring viewers into thinking community activists would soon be banging down their doors and ransacking their Main Streets — Fox News reacted to the verdict with frustration and rage.

The aggravation sprang from the fact that the network desperately wanted to air scenes of mayhem from Minneapolis following a 'not guilty' verdict, and to spend the week denouncing Democrats and President Joe Biden for lawlessness on the left.

It's a chilling reminder that Fox News isn't merely a "conservative" media outlet that provides a GOP perspective on the news. It's a dangerous propaganda machine whose goal is to undermine American democracy. It's driven by a blood lust for conflict and feeds off civil unrest if it can cast progressives as villains.

And its is absolutely, 100% disgusting.

The aggravation sprang from the fact that the network desperately wanted to air scenes of mayhem from Minneapolis following a 'not guilty' verdict, and to spend the week denouncing Democrats and President Joe Biden for lawlessness on the left.

The crux of the situation. They didn't get their "black fear" moment, and now they have found another way to pretend to be "victims".

But of course, I haven't heard one single legal scholar or prosecutor opine as to which charge(s) the State did not meet the burden of proof on.

But that would require a major re-think on Fox's part, and they're just not equipped to do that.

Faykes Newz zoomed in on a burning dumpster or some such in Portland and portrayed it as The Left Is Burning The Whole City Down. Last Tuesday they would have had to light the dumpster themselves.

like here in Philly, where they sounded absolutely DEVASTATED that there wasn't "rioting" and "looting" and "violence" that they could excitedly be in the midst of, talking hysterically while coughing and hacking and choking on (imaginary) tear gas, with molotov cocktails flying and police cars being jumped up and down on, and their giving the blow-by-blow of how "bad" things were as some producer made sure that they cut from reporter to reporter covering every business corridor around the city.

Instead, there were peaceful gatherings and vigils and prayers and best wishes to the family of the victim of that horrendous crime.

And the media here mumbled dejectedly trying to recount events of almost a year ago as if they could somehow transport that to the present so they could get their sick fix.

It's as though people don't riot when justice is served.

According to the twittersphere, entire cities burned down last summer.Cops are quitting in droves, and we should prepare to do what it takes to protect our homes and families from the lawless hordes...

A "not guilty" verdict would have thoroughly undermined American democracy without the need of any help from Fox News, and it most likely would have resulted in mayhem, but Fox News probably knew that the most they could hope for was a hung jury.

takes quite an effort to downplay Jan 6, then the story of BLM riots that never happened.

Meanwhile, though, antifa.

They are beyond disgusting. I couldn't believe the total nonsense Candace Owens has been spewing.

And they got outraged over Biden's systemic racism statement. And then the 16 year old black girl lunged at the pink clad girl - manna from heaven to them. What a perfect distraction for them. Forget about Floyd and his murder.
