Can we please stop with the links to tweets that have no explanation & require one to go to Twitter to find out what theyre about? I feel like DU is becoming an appendix of Twitter, and thats a real sad thing to contemplate.

(22,031 posts)In fact, I was just writing an OP to the same point.
If the OP is just a link to Twitter, you've lost my interest. If you really have a point, please take the time to make it.

(2,728 posts)Twitter has become a public square in a sense and cant be ignored as a outlet for breaking news or statements.

(864 posts)I'm saying at least give the headline, maybe a paragraph. Otherwise it just feels like click bait.

(38,419 posts)Why not give credit to Jonathan Swift for the term..."A Modest Proposal?"
______________________________________________________________________________________
A Modest Proposal For preventing the Children of Poor People From being a Burthen to Their Parents or Country, and For making them Beneficial to the Publick,[1] commonly referred to as A Modest Proposal, is a Juvenalian satirical essay written and published anonymously by Jonathan Swift in 1729. The essay suggests that the impoverished Irish might ease their economic troubles by selling their children as food to rich gentlemen and ladies. This satirical hyperbole mocked heartless attitudes towards the poor, as well as British policy toward the Irish in general.

Not nice to use a historical phrase with .....no explanation..............doing exactly what the poster says
not to do...
So...in reality...A MODEST PROPOSAL...IS..."A MODEST PROPOSAL

(22,031 posts)Usually I don't see those RFN posts until hours later so they are irrelevant.
Well, not so much fun, after all. Just annoying.

(35,658 posts)"this" tells me nothing. At least give us a clue as to what the topic is.

(2,216 posts)I got the feeling that i had just been hit with click bait. Yes, the twit without explanation or the immediately dated headline are both nuisances.
When they post, "JUST HAPPENING NOW!!!" and it is two hours old, and I see the same poster did it before, I seriously consider choosing to not see that poster in the future. Serious points off for that.
When they have an undescribed, under-detailed or click bait style link to anything, I want to be able to vote it down. While your opinion is not always needed in a post, putting something up without letting me in for what I am about to waste time on without any of your observations is lazy and abusive.
Honestly, I don't want DU to turn into click bait.

(864 posts)I'm glad you got the reference. I'm sorry somebody else on this thread thought I was a bad person for using that as my title. While I don't believe Swift invented the phrase, he did make good use of it!

(101,307 posts)I do; I always view DU on my PC. Perhaps it's when viewing on a phone, or using the mobile view, that people don't see it. But unless you know that others don't see what you do, then it would seem like needless repetition to duplicate what the tweet says.
