So a question.

We have a husband and wife team that cleans our house every 2 weeks. We really like them and are very trustworthy. I asked them last week if they were planing to be vaccinated. They told me that due to the wife’s medicine she takes, that she should not get vaccinated. The husband is “still thinking about it”. Should I require a vaccination before allowing them to clean my house going forward?

But maybe not if your household is vaccinated..

You don't want them kicked to the street.
But still there needs to be consequences.

Maybe only have them come by once a month until they're vaccinated .

It sucks making those kinds of decisions.

Fuck capitalism

2. I would take time to educate them. This vax hesitancy is BS. And ask what condition...

does his wife have that she can't get the vaccine. That sounds bogus.

It sounds bogus af to me.

In addition to asking for details on why the wife (supposedly) can't have the vaccine, I'd want to know who told them she can't have it. It would be interesting to see what they have to say.

3. It's a tricky one. As long as you're all vaccinated, should be ok

Especially if you can be in different rooms than where they’re working. And if they wear masks.

I guess you could wear masks too.

How long are they in the hour with you? How close?

I have zero tolerance for this selfish behavior from others who expect everyone else to take the risk thus they will be protected.

Again...they are just selfish.

...I would tell them you want to hire only vaccinated people.
Do not enable them. They will eventually come around if people require them to be vaccinated. They won't if they get away with their bs.
There are others who you could hire.

6. Yes, give them ample time to get their vaccines and/ or make other plans for employment elsewhere.

30 days should do it. And ask to see the cards.

7. We have cleaners come once a month.

They wear masks and we leave while they’re working. We also open the windows and leave them open for a little while after they finish. Everyone in our home is vaccinated.

Leaving the house while they work is a choice based on trust because they’ve cleaned for us and other people we know for close to 10 years. So others may not have the luxury to feel comfortable just leaving their house.

8. Sounds like wife can't be vaccinated. But husband can. Politely ask him

for proof of vaccination.

However, if you are fully vaccinated, your worry is very small.

I use a commercial service, Merry Maids to clean my house every other week. The women who clean have been wearing masks for nearly a year. I myself am fully vaccinated, so I'm happy being unmasked in the house while they clean. I sincerely hope they all get vaccinated soon.

11. I was told she has a condition where her joints fuse. She's had lots of surgeries

Together. She is a bit crippled. And, I know this job is important to her. And I’ve seen the scars. I was told she takes too many medications and a vaccine might not be safe. HOWEVER, he stated he’s not sure whether he will. He’s very religious and thinks that because he’s vegan, he doesn’t need it. His son sometimes cares for our pets and he’s been fully vaccinated. So, I’m not sure how to react. They are wonderful people. But, I fear his religious beliefs are influencing his decision. My husband and I got the J&J and our 2 weeks are up. They only wear surgical masks. Should I require a KN95? And provide it? Or should I say, no vaccine, no job? I’m really torn.

13. Sounds like it could be ankylosing spondylitis (or similar)

And if so, then yeah, there's a higher risk to vaccines (or maybe it's just that they won't work as well?) because it's an auto-immune disease, and medicines you take for it lower your immune response (Humira is an example).

My boss has that though and he's going to take (or has taken) the J&J, after considerable research and consultation.

From what he told me just needs to stop taking some of his meds around that time. It's not really dangerous to take some time off of them, they're actually pretty hard on your system and you're supposed take occasional breaks anyway.

Both of us pretty much sailed thru the post-jab period, which kind of surprised me. I took Tylenol and dozed, but nothing to complain about.

16. She has ankylosing spondylitis
Fri Apr 23, 2021, 02:19 AM

I have the same disease.

Her work probably causes little injuries (nicks and small cuts) that her biologic shot (to slow down the fusing) puts her at risk of MRSA and a whole host of other concerns.

That said - I was vaccinated. After my second shot of Pfizer - day later - I cut my finger pretty bad. I had to wait for it to heal to give myself a shot again.

30 days for her would give her enough time to recover from the "injury" of the vaccine. And yes - its like the flu shot for me - and most other people with AS. I take it faithfully - knowing I will have A bad reaction, so WHEN I get the flu, I don't end up in the hospital.

Reality check - I worked from home during Covid - and post vaccination go into the office twice a week.

She goes in and out of unsafe environments.

She's nuts to not take a month off and get the shot.

Our rib cages shift - she will die if she gets Covid. Her lungs literally have less room.

I haven't had the house cleaners in since March 2020.

I just had them come back in January. (I did continue to pay them during the months off.)
Hopefully, the doctors will advise correctly. Now, I know we will continue. Just making sure they have masks and I leave.

...when we finally get back together. My plan is also to send Cita the County’s phone number for people who don’t use computers to schedule an appointment. She already contacted me saying she now uses masks and gloves, which is a good sign.

Gah. I agree it seems hard. This is new territory for all of us.
