Former Olympic decathlete and reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner has filed her initial paperwork to run for governor of California and will officially announce her bid later today, her campaign tells Axios.
The big picture: Jenner, a longtime Republican, is seeking to replace Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom in a recall election, hoping her celebrity status and name recognition can yield an upset in the nation's most populous state.
But in deep-blue California, she's decidedly not branding herself as a Trump Republican even as she's counting on some of the former president's advisers to drive her strategy.
She's assembled a team of prominent GOP operatives including Tony Fabrizio, the top pollster on Donald Trump's 2016 and 2020 campaigns, Ryan Erwin, founder of RedRock Strategies, and Tyler Deaton, president of Allegiance Strategies.

(11,767 posts)1. How has Caitlyn Jenner been a "quiet disruptor"? I mean so damn quiet that no one ever knew she was disrupting I guess.
2. What does going to the Olympics have to do with...anything basically? She was a great decathlete, good for her, so what? She was on the cover of Wheaties. That does not make anyone qualified for public office.
3. Advancing equality? How? It is good that Jenner was able to do what she needed to live her truth. It does take courage for anyone to do that. That, however, is not "advancing equality". Advancing equality is breaking down barriers so that OTHERS who don't have fame, fortune, and status can live their truths as well. I have not seen Jenner do anything that would remotely qualify as advancing equality.
This is a vanity driven project and the GOP (some GOP) are only too happy to try to advance their agenda of lower taxes on the wealthy using this shell of a person to do so.
