Make The Oil Companies Pay To Cap Their Wells Not Tax Payers

Gasoline costs $20 a gallon counting war.

Society pays for the externalities, including pollution caused sickness.

This does not count climate change.

Gas should cost its true cost. Oil revenue goes into a fund to pay for 100% of cleanup and climate offset.

Electric cars would seem like free.

I recall that some states had a tax on wells that was collected for the expressed purpose of paying for shutdown/clean up if the oil companies went under. What happened to that fund?

there are probably millions of uncapped wells. I saw one here in Pa. many years ago when I was hunting. It was oozing slime that I figure would eventually make it to a stream.

It's Socialism; privatize the profits Socialize the costs, or in this case, there are no costs to abandoned oil and gas wells. Just imagine how many have been abandoned off shore.

It shouldn't be this way... I live in Pennsylvania and we've seen the damage done. The drilling companies just slink away and leave a mess after the profits have already been taken out. It happens all the time.

sure as heck isn't going back to "society". It would end up in oil executives pockets, or special interest groups.

"Should" is such a fun word. But. whenever we use it, it's usually an excursion into the fantasy world how we want things to be. instead of how they actually are.
