Rachel Maddow's show discussing the recount in Arizona AGAIN, is quite alarming. The whole process

allocated to partisan hacks and conspiracy nuts. Journalist access is being denied access to the Arizona senate audit of Maricopa county presidential ballots. Before they removed one journalist from observing, the journalist noted these supposed auditors had blue and black pens with them, which is expressly forbidden by Arizona law, because blue and black pens can allow these auditors to illegally change the ballots. They are also only auditing the Democratic candidates, not republican ones.

While I don’t see this over-turning the certified results, there is no doubt that this will be used to propagate the big lie. Add that to the voter suppression laws, and other states that are considering doing the same thing, this is a very real risk to our democracy, and can bring our country down if this isn’t stopped

I was about to make a thread about ALL of these desperate stunts from the TRump party. Might this be their final death throe! They are fighting for air, perhaps?

It could also be a final push towards their game of match, and they actually get what they want.

2. I don't say this lightly, or with glee

Unless there is a seismic tilt in the relationship between right and left in the US, I fear you are doomed as a nation.

Guns, racism, violence, religion, poverty, conspiracy theory, suppression. How did it get like this? Why are Hawley, Cruz, MTG, Rifle Barbie still members of congress? I really fear for you.

4. It's the power of propaganda.

I grew up thinking that propaganda was something seen in other times and faraway lands, and that nuclear bombs were the only weapons with the potential to destroy civilization. Now I tremble at the power of psychological warfare.

The methods are the same, whether used in Nazi Germany, Maoist China, or the present-day US - and they work.

The world itself is not safe while the US is so sick, for our outsized influence means that our ills are seldom contained within our borders. There is a saying in world affairs that "when America sneezes, the world catches cold."

And yes, I fear greatly.

8. I think the right has been overrun by their propaganda

I completely agree with you. It became clear to me during the rise of Fox/Rove era that their propaganda had become self actualized in a way. There were still powers that be in control and they used their media to crush as needed. If you misstepped their media could ignore you or worse put you away. Now the media options are multiplied and Fox is no longer the filter. These characters are popping up and out outraging each other. Once one line gets out there they all repeat it and then someone upstages the rest....who follow suit. Hayley voting against a hate crime is a perfect example - how will Cruz and probably Rand respond?

Characters like Boebert and Empty Greene have been around but they were fringe elements left by their own party to just do their own thing. They’ve usurped Gohmert in their outrage and ridiculousness. The things Steve King did to get booted out just a few years ago now would make him the talk of the airwaves until someone else leapfrogged him to go further out on the fringe.
