Last May, Sheriff Swanson's men were lined up in front of the Flint Township Police station as the Black Lives Matter march came down the road. Instead of confronting, he put down his shield, helmet and baton, told his officers to do the same, asked what they could do, and accepted the invitation to join the march.
These are his remarks on the conviction of Chauvin:
12 people spoke for the nation. When we heard guilty, guilty, guilty our next was he better be remanded and when he was remanded thats when we took a breath of relief."
"May 25, 2020 was the day this entire profession changed. We added a third discipline. Police are to protect, service and unify. Weve seen the power of all three of them, but unification is one weve focused here and we changed our culture.
Im excited for the reform. Im excited to validate what were doing right and to correct what we need to do different."
As I recall, he pretty handily won re-election.

Quit seeing everyone without a badge as the enemy.
Would bet it makes those cops' jobs safer, too.
