...planning the death of American democracy by a thousand legislative cuts.
The response to the other guy losing is every fascist authoritarian racist nativist wannabees wet dream. Over 360 bills in 47 states undermining the electoral systems to a huge degree. I mean come on. Want to protest systemic racism in Florida and a Nazi runs you over and kills you, nothing to see here folks. First amendment be damned. Want to vote in Georgia? Good luck with that. Attempts to purge voter rolls in Arizona is paused for now, but only cause the big lie freaks in the legislature felt it did not go far enough.
Lets pretend the insurrection did not happen
Lets repeat the big lie ad nauseum to undermine faith in how voting shit works
Lets limit the power of election officials
Lets give ourselves the power to overturn election results
Lets steam roll through legislation to silence and disempower those who have a problem with male, pale, stale, fascist, lying racist fuckers clinging onto EVERYTHING.
They will happily see the great experiment die rather than cede any control at all to anyone who does not think and act JUST LIKE THEM.
As Steven Levitsky so eloquently puts is
This is how elected autocrats subvert democracypacking and weaponizing the courts and other neutral agencies, buying off the media and the private sector (or bullying them into silence), and rewriting the rules of politics to tilt the playing field against opponents. The tragic paradox of the electoral route to authoritarianism is that democracys assassins use the very institutions of democracygradually, subtly, and even legallyto kill it.
They need to be stopped.

(111,052 posts)They got more votes in the last election than any Republican Party in history. The cult of personality and lies worked very well for them. Why change horses in the middle of the stream?

The Republicans are increasingly the minority party and are lying, cheating, trying to game the systems to hold on to power. Whats now going on in Arizona is right out of the fascist playbook. Its startling.
