Everyone who worked behind a counter, or in tech support, has wished they could say this. Its actually a comedian named Scott Seiss.

(58,785 posts)than he should be given that future HR departments will be able to look this up.
But I've been shopping and seen him before. He's the passive-aggressive jerk who's too cowardly to act out his hostility face to face and instead "fixes" others by such clever hits as writing up the wrong size extra shelf for a bookcase or sneakily deleting a hinge for a cabinet.
Hope this inspires others to tell their employers' customers off.

(17,911 posts)I worked at Sears during my undergrad years. Auto center. DieHard / Roadhandler land. We had a guy come in looking for tires,
Average suburban professional type....told us his wife drove the car....used it to drive their kids to school and back, plus various practices after school...so on and so on. Big lead up to......"what's the cheapest tires you've got for it?" The salesman and I looked at each other in complete disbelief. What...tha...hell?! If they were having financial problems, that would be understandable, but why the long back story before the cheap skate routine? So, you don't really care if what should be the most important people in your life are riding around on tissue paper that we're actually embarrassed to sell, skid off the road into a ditch, roll a couple times and hit a tree? Nice. Ugh. Sometimes I really hate humans.

(34,439 posts)where the guy started to tell us that tires not as good as Michelins were fine for his wifes car, since all she does is drive the kids to school, etc. then realizes his KIDS are precious and goes for the Michelins.
So, his WIFE doesnt deserve good, safe tires?
paleotn
(17,911 posts)At the same time my dad was telling me to always get the best tires you can afford. Always. Don't ever skimp on what's between you and the road. I made that mistake a couple times before I realized the old man was right.

Though I do completely agree with the idea of thinking of tires as part of the safety equipment when making spending decisions, if at all economically possible.

(58,785 posts)though merely assisting professionals on very big accounts. Oh, but I ran a very busy snack bar in Woolworth's when I was 17, if that counts.
It's not the job, though, it's the person. Someone too feckless and undisciplined to give proper service to customers in a dollar store isn't going to have the right stuff for good jobs. Though he might try harder and fake it much longer.

I have, on the other hand, have worked retail and everything that was said in the video, although done in a comedic way, is dead on.
There is a great old quote, it goes like this: better to be thought the fool, than open your mouth and have it confirmed.

Isn't it absolutely amazing the ways people find to imagine themselves special? And especially put upon? Let's just hope no one's inspired to start a thread about the special tribulations of being a retail customer that no one else can comprehend.

I never thought customers changing their order or asking me to bring another plate, or whatever'd set this guy's hair on fire, was intolerable. And NO one ever told me I lost a customer or demanded to speak with my manager.
For those prone...bless their mean little hearts and hope their parents will take them in?

(11,563 posts)He would NOT accept that my son wasn't being obstinate and refusing to do what he wanted, but that the software would not let him do that. Special overrides required.
Likewise, he refused to be transferred to the appropriate department that my son had offered as an option, because that's the way it's done. No! "He had an arrangement." Fine, but your arrangement is with them and not me because I LITERALLY CANNOT DO WHAT YOU WANT.
After what seemed like hours, the idiot asked if there was anyone else he could speak to. He said "Yes, the XX Dept." (Don't remember what it was). Now the guy is REALLY exasperated and demands to know why he wasn't transferred there to begin with, somehow forgetting that that was an option he had refused to entertain.
My son "I offered to do that for you at the beginning of this call, but you chose to use the last 20 minutes as an opportunity to argue with me."
A completely unrelated incident, other than my son's involvement, was a call from a guy I worked for, who decided 1:40 AM was completely acceptable!!! He had no boundaries whatsoever, and was beyond anxious for me to get up and phone his gf's parents because she wasn't behaving to his standards, either.
Son refuses to do this, but finally puts down the phone, comes to my bedroom door and whispers through the closed door to see if I was up.
"Nope, he's dead asleep and I couldn't wake him."
"But I NEED you to do this. It's an EMERGENCY!!!"
My son's shining moment came at this point. "Try to imagine the vast gulf of irrelevance between your situation and my life."
I LOVE my son!
PS...I heard of this from my son, naturally. BPD Boy (borderline personality disorder) never mentioned it at all. Wonder why.

I am retired and work a couple of days a week at Williams Sonoma. I once had a customer try to return a knife after several years of owning it.......because it wasnt sharp anymore. Another came in with a cookie sheet that was gross and sticky and complained that it was supposed to be non-stick. She didnt realize that it was was supposed to be washed after each using.

(36,260 posts)something Jerry Seinfeld was quoted as saying stuck with me: "Someone who is nice to you but rude to the waiter is not a nice person." That sunk in very slowly, but I ended up re-evaluating a couple of "friendships" because of it, including one with a woman on whom I had once been most unreasonably infatuated.

(25,472 posts)My brother does that and it's so embarrassing, the worst at a wedding held in the school cafeteria where the couple worked -- high school girls were serving and he was leering like an old lion. Disgusting. Rudeness and treating people like they're for sale, too. The worst.

(2,268 posts)My daughter worked for a few years at a store that sold a large variety of items at discounted prices, and boy, the stories she told us about some of the customers: people coming in 5 minutes before closing time and not leaving, opening jars of lotion to try it and then putting them back, giving the cashier a hard time about expired coupons, yelling at the cashier about the long checkout line, etc. And if the store is out of what the customer wants, look out. The employees always had to watch for theft; some of the discount stores attract the most unscrupulous people, who feel that discount should mean free. People would hide items in the bottom of a trash container they were purchasing, switch price tags on items, put a more expensive face cream in the box of an inexpensive cream, etc. Shes happy to be out of that place. Ill show her this comedy segment, shell love it!

(2,343 posts)there is NEVER a reason for any customer to complain about anything to any store employee or store manager. If a customer feels they are not receiving "good service", they need to take it out on the corporate side. No one at store level is "being mean" to you. If you're upset, it's because you may not like a policy that store level employees have no control over.
The best part of this guy's video is the one where he says "I'd like to speak to your mother. Because she raised someone to act like a baby in public!" So true. People need to grow up and stop whining to already abused retail store employees.

(842 posts)Most customers are great but there are always a few idiots.
On memorable one was a husband and wife, the wife was very interested in my carved birdhouses they are old man faces with the mouth as the opening. The husband is loudly badmouthing my work, she picks on out a 75.00 one I take it down, the husband shoves 70.00 at me this is what I will give you. I just looked at him without a word just hung it back up and walked away.
His wife came with the correct amount a little later, now the idiot has got to look at it and remember the interaction instead of just being a respectful person.
For some its like a game they always want to cut the price to feel they got something over on the seller. In two weeks we will be doing our first show since the whole covid lock down. last year was tough without the shows.

(7,670 posts)she claimed it was on our website, and that it was posted 15 hours ago(when we were closed). We sometimes highlight items we MIGHT carry on our website for our location, but our managers post it themselves and they sure as hell don't work when the store is closed. We don't even do retail online, there's no way to track items that way for us, let's just say we are a store where even the employees are surprised at what we get in our trucks sometimes. She more or less called all of us liars.

(8,038 posts)I worked retail in my younger days (for a very short time). That experience is what prompted me to go to a vocational school to get some secretarial skills (mainly typing) so I could work in an office. I was a single mom and was unable to go to college to get a degree at the time - I just needed some skills. Working in an office was like Heaven compared to retail!
It was years later that I was finally able to go to college to get my bachelor's degree when I was 41 years old.
