(60,014 posts)My first moderna hit me a bit the second day (took a 2 hour mid afternoon nap - just felt off) - second shot didn't have any impact at all.

(65,013 posts)My wife got Pfizer. Essentially no side effect, either dose.
I got Moderna. Zero on #1, a 14 hour fever & done day after #2.
Your spouse got hammered by it.
It's anybody's guess how any one person will respond.

(8,703 posts)People who have antibodies to PEG seem to be at higher risk for anaphylaxis. The more you get injected with PEG, the higher your antibody level might become. VAERS has reported thousands of anaphylactic reactions.

(5,644 posts)Also I don't think PEG is an adjuvant per se

(8,703 posts)Dec 21, 2020 · The two vaccines both contain mRNA wrapped in lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) that help carry it to human cells but also act as an adjuvant, a vaccine ingredient that bolsters the immune response.
Anaphylactic shock is still a big problem if you look at the VAERS reports - like a 40,000 cases problem from mild to severe.

(5,644 posts)PEG is added for stability.
Anyway, the article is from Dec 2020 and I don't think the anaphylaxis issue has been as significant problem as they worried it would be. At least it really hasn't been in the news since then.

(2,595 posts)Totally worth it, as having flu-like symptoms for 24 hours is better that actually having COVID. If the booster's effects are similar so be it.

(23,339 posts)Every year, every six months, whatever's necessary. Mrs Bozo was hit pretty hard with Moderna #2, but only for a few days. Now, she's invincible!
We'll get the boosters, whenever.

(205,320 posts)I had terrible chills that night and the next day and when I woke up I felt so woozy that I didn't want to stand up. With shot #1 all I had was a slightly sore arm. But it was pretty much over by the next day and the rotten way I felt was certainly moderated by the tremendous relief I felt at finally being able to get the vaccine. I'm grateful for that every day, sure helped dissipate the fear that we've been living with for over a year, not that I'm changing my behavior, but that fear has been replaced with gratitude.

(2,566 posts)But I'm told that feeling crappy after the 2nd shot means it's working. So there you go.
I got #2 Moderna at the end of February felt lousy for a couple days but then was fine.
The COVID cases at my school have dropped considerably since the vaccines rolled out.

(8,052 posts)Fever, chills, body aches, headache--lay on the couch under a blanket while my husband watched TV, drifted in and out of consciousness. I tried to tough it out but ended up taking two Tylenol right before bed so I could sleep. Still have a bit of fever this morning. On the plus side, my shot arm isn't as sore this time around. Booster shots, that will be interesting to see how it affects people. Not really looking forward to them after last night tho.

(68,556 posts)I had felt unwell the morning of the shot upset stomach...really felt crappy. But I was not missing this shot so I took it anyway. I had no pain in my arm at all. About 4:00 the next morning, I woke up with a headache and was dizzy and nauseous. But, I had felt sick before I got the shot. I went back to bed and woke up about 10:00 and felt fine. My sister felt miserable for a few days. I wonder if the antibodies I already had from having Covid made my reaction mild.

(5,644 posts)the worst was over in a day but I haven't felt top notch in the week since I got it.
