Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) is very upset that "able-bodied" people under the age of 55 are on Medicaid and food stamps, but his solution is simply to make things worse.KENNEDY: This is the first thing I would do if I were king for a day. If I'd been President Biden... he should have turned to the United States Congress and said look, we're probably not going to be able to find enough money, but I think a good place to start would be scrubbing the discretionary budget.
If I were President Biden, I would have said to Congress, look, we're spending $144 billion a year on improper payments. We're sending checks to the wrong people. In many cases, we're sending checks to dead people. Let's see how much we can reduce that. Even if we can reduce it by 10 or 20 percent, that's 15 to, what, $30 billion.
Number two, I would have said, Congress, there's a CBO study that compares every job in the federal government to every job in the private sector and it shows that we pay 17 percent more for the same job in government than we do in the private sector. Maybe we can trim that figure. That costs us $40 billion.
I would have turned to Congress and said, look, why do we have to give a federal employee pay raises every year? Maybe we ought to save the money this year and spend it on infrastructure.

(11,744 posts)People need to understand that conservatives have the world view that people are supposed to be ruled, not governed with the consent of the governed. Conservatives believe in a hierarchy in society with the "great man" at the top and those below, serving the elite. For all their populist bullshit, they have complete disdain for the average person. Conservatism as an ideology came out of defense of the Monarchy during the French Revolution, and has not changed very much in those 230+ years, except for who they back as the successor to the Monarchs.

(16,856 posts)we should tax the poor to pay for welfare, food stamps, etc. since they're the ones who benefit from those programs.
These fuckers don't even take the care to listen to themselves, or as in Kennedy's case, they say these stupid things in order to get attention.
Kennedy does this to impress the people back in Louisiana; a lot of them are ignorant and love to hear his solutions to fix government. I'm sure he gets plenty of donations from all the wrong people, too.
