I think the former guy tapped into a pervasive we vs them attitude

That is normally left behind in junior high or HS. At least it should be. Met a couple guys this last weekend, one of them was constantly throwing “Democrats” into the conversation as a sarcastic term. Both these guys were friendly and seemed reasonable. The rethug retired with a nice pension recently. The liberal guy has had a sporadic career but inherited money. He was all for increased taxes on the rich, I guess he was decent enough to realize he didn’t earn the money. The RWer pushed him about inheritance tax to which the wealthy one said it doesn’t kick in till you hit 11 million so he was unaffected. The RWer stumbled into a good UNION job at a young age. I guess he got his so fuck everyone else.

Kind of lost my train of thought, but the RWer was really into the we vs them concept and apparently so are many Americans. And the former occupant knew how to play that card.
