April 27, 2021 at 7:16 am EDT By Taegan Goddard
But on Monday night, during a rant where it was hard to tell whether Carlson was serious or not his Trump-like way of distancing himself from the content of his monologues is to always keep you guessing as to whether hes just putting you on Carlson made a comment that was beyond the pale even for him, and especially strange for a self-styled anti-nanny state libertarian.
Said Carlson: Your response when you see children wearing masks as they play should be no different from your response to seeing someone beat a kid at Walmart. Call the police immediately, contact child protective services. Keep calling until someone arrives.

(9,090 posts)now the their rotten leader is rotting and they don't know what to do. they don't know how to spin the day's events. they're competing top outdo each other to take over but they know they can't. tucker is fucked. he always knew before that all he had to do was follow the limbaugh take and in a week 1500 radio stations would be reinforcing it with unchallenged repetition to 50 mil americans. they're fucked now with limbaugh rotting away and dumbfuck dittoheads running around without a clue. no, tucker you can't be their new leader.

(13,567 posts)This seems like giving the go ahead to the crazies to start harassing kids. Are they going to start ripping masks off kids? Calling them names, pushing them down? How far will they go? This seems like a call to commit child abuse to me. Fox must do something! This veiled call to violence against children and their parents should not be legal. Damn, is there nothing we can do in this country to stop this nonsense?

(488 posts)And, I, for one, would bitch slap the hell out of someone trying to rip off a child's mask. I guess that's the point, right? I'm thinking that is what the point of this is. To make liberal people violent. Can't think of another reason.
Claire Oh Nette
(2,636 posts)He's asking strangers to insert themselves into family dynamics and report masked children as child abuse. He's asking people to call Child Protective Services.
He's asking strangers to report parents to CPS for having their children follow mask mandates at schools and elsewhere.
CPS can't simply blow off reports of child abuse. I'm a mandated reporter. Making a report is no joke. It's not undertaken lightly, and rarely without pretty strong suspicions. Reports trigger investigations. Carlson asked his viewers to make false reports, waste time and resources that are already stretched thin, and increase the chances that a real abuse case is ignored because the GOP is the Boy Who Cried Wolf.
Tucker has fed dangerous verifiably false information (lies) to the public during a pandemic. He is actively discouraging vaccines, as well as undermining CDC contagious disease prevention guidelines.
He is a threat to the public health. He's Typhoid Mary with a microphone.
I don't watch Fox, but I'll gladly join the campaign to put financial pressure on Tucker's sponsors, and to call for a 72 hour 5150 hold on his deranged rantings.

(7,263 posts)If you pay for TV, cable, internet, or satellite - YOU are paying for Fox to survive whether you watch it or not.
Fox makes a huge profit from the fees it collects from the Media providers. Which then pass them off to you (plus a few pennies on top) in your cable/sattelite/internet provider bill.
You. Have. No. Choice.

(89 posts)...his stepmother is the granddaughter of the founder, Carl Swanson. Her father Gilbert and his brother ran the company during its period of explosive growth in the early '50s. Both Tucker and his brother added "Swanson" as one of their middle names.
Claire Oh Nette
(2,636 posts)I was under the impression his mother was the Swanson, which explains the pretentious two middle name thing. Adding it to suck up to your step dad is even more pretentious.
He's a no talent bland face honing planks in the Republican Platform. Never forget FOX has always been the propaganda arm of the GOP, despite the hatriots sudden love affair with OAN.

(488 posts)All over the country, every warehouse, every truck stop, they had rush limballs on. Every damn place I went had this piece of shit on.
I would turn it off if I could, or I would tell, not request, that they turn that shit off, while I was there. Sometimes they did. Always saying, he is the only one who tells the truth, I ought to listen, and he's funny. When he first came on the radio, AM was the only thing a traveler could pick up, only FM in the cities, large towns. But, I heard him the first, and only time, and immediately said what the hell is this guy talking about, or that is a total lie, why is this piece of shit allowed to broadcast? I have hated the republican party ever since.
I listened to Mike Malloy, then Al Franken, before Air America, then Rachel, on the radio, till 11:00 pm, every nite. Then, after 11: pm, all on the AM radio was real crazy religious shit, or crazy UFO topic, type shit. And, that is exactly what the republican party turned into. I did have a lot of music to listen to.

Then Publicly finance elections. Campaign for four months, including the six to eight weeks leading up to election day. You should be governing, not fundraising and spitting out mendacious "Comms."

This fascism in the 21st century, and every republican politician needs fox viewers for votes, so their views and their demands for both loyalty and action will be more and more extreme and, imho, more and more violent.

(11,729 posts)Carlson is a White Supremacist and an overall disgusting person. He is not, however, crazy. He is a professional shill for White Supremacy. He has studied Rush Limbaugh and his mentor, Pat Buchanan. He is using tactics to send his message to both, the people that follow him and anyone that is "interested" in hearing the message. This is performative not a sign of a mental breakdown.
We can certainly say that the message he is sending is disgusting and not acceptable in society but we need to acknowledge that this is a deliberate tactic, not the sign that Carlson is decompensating.
He is able to send toxic messages to his stupid listeners while claiming no responsibility when they inevitably act out and create chaos.
Prof. Toru Tanaka
(1,950 posts)The only difference between Carlson and Stephen Miller is that Carlson makes his living on TV. Miller makes his behind the scenes.
Both of them are intelligent but very twisted, diabolical, evil people.
Caliman73
(11,729 posts)I am not sure why people use the turn of phrase, "losing their mind" as if that is the most effective descriptor. As you said, Carlson and Miller are twisted and evil. They are malicious White Supremacists, who would likely, not care of people of color began getting killed. Of course they would do everything in their power to avoid blame for killings that they would likely inspire and revel in, but they are also cowards. Saying someone is "losing their mind" implies that they are no longer in full control of their decision-making process.
When a person with Schizophrenia is having hallucinations and paranoid thoughts are constant, they have a difficult time distinguishing between reality and their perceptions. The voices in their heads telling them that this person or that, is the devil, or whispering that people are following them, are as real in that moment as the voices coming from family and friends are to us. They act upon the faulty information being fed to them through their sense, but which do not comport with reality.
People like Carlson and Miller know full well what they are doing. They know full well what their words and actions are putting into motion. They want it. They are trying to set it in motion, but they don't want any of the fall out so they do it in a cowardly way.

CARLSON: I agree with you completely. I would even actually up the analogy and say a vaccinated person, someone with the antibodies wearing a mask outside is like watching a grown man expose himself in public. "That's disgusting, put it away please. We don't do that here."
The only real question is whether he's now losing his mind, or if he lost it long ago.
