I have a friend who likes to present herself as independent politically, but all signs suggest otherwise. She definitely had the proper upbringing, showing sympathy and compassion for people of all walks of life, but Trump really did a number on all people like her.
I think I got an inkling when her husband told me that she watches Kardashians shows. Not that this is an indication of anything, other than she could easily be pulled into following a made-up reality show. And I bring this up, because I think that some women are very enamored of other women who can pull off the glam shots, 24/7. The end result is that they fall too easily for beautiful people. So, this takes us to the point of this post. I was totally floored when I discovered my friend was completely won over by Melania Trump. A few months ago, she made a comment that Melania never got the credit she deserved. And yesterday, she wrote that Melania was the most intelligent First Lady. WHAT! Did she get fooled by Melania's Einstein exception into citizenship?
I confess that I'm one of those women who don't do too well in feminine social groups, unless the issue that brings everyone together is grounded in progressive issues. Or just grounded. Once the topic moves to subjective pet peeves, affectations, or trash-talking people who are not in the room, I find my resolve dissolving. One thing I do know, for better or worse, a group of women can do anything they set their mind to. For better or for worse.

(182,769 posts)Everything theyd ever been told and knew crashed at their feet. The media couldnt blur things enough. Do this, do that, everything will take care of itself and then BOOM the whole (Econ/finance)system breaks down. The white men totally failed and yes lied us into a war. Then THEN theres a black President and his wife who are just too good to be true regardless of the attacks against them. Hold on....then gay wasnt only not to be giggled at my more but actually celebrated and then LEGAL?!??!
Too much. They couldnt handle it.

"she could easily be pulled into following a made-up reality show" for her own "safety" unable to mobilize either "other women" or a misogynist culture to take her side and help her escape a personal made-up-by-her-spouse reality show. Have some pity for the lack of complete rebellion against all things "right-wing." Some women have personal challenges against a system that's so misogynist, no one would believe her situation to truly be a "bad thing." Bending a bit to her man's deceptions and/or definitions of love might require it for her "safety."
I don't know Melania or what motivations pushed that brainless trollop, as I like to call her, to marry that sociopath, but there must have been something back then she thought she wanted out of the relationship. Money, fame, lots of parties she need not host, a boy child from her body, to be an American or something else? It's obvious that occasionally, in her "bear of little brain," he goes too far and she's refuses to keep the deal with herself and him (pulls hand away from DT-smiles at JT in that certain way?" Body language and facial expression, and perhaps inappropriate "fashion" leads me to this conclusion. Clearly, one of those motivations wasn't to become First Lady! Her anger at that also evidenced by the destruction of the beautiful Rose Garden and awful holiday decorations at "the People's WH." After all, it's a Christian celebration, and no one in that house believes or behaves as Jesus recommended...Shame, guilt, insecurity, evil - don't know...
SMH at what the GQP thinks and actions it has taken up against America. Though some symptoms are lessening, I'm not sure my political SMH syndrome can ever be forced into complete remission with Joe/Jill; that could take much longer and, for the children's sake, MUST prevail insofar as MY beliefs and actions can be shared. It's a heart thing, and I know what a difficult task that will continue to be.

(2,690 posts)Melania was deliberately throwing bags of poop at America and, especially, the office of the president. A bitter, in my opinion, a very bitter and frustrated woman. She wanted to party and pose -- but as First Lady she lost control of the narrative.
But why did she marry Flubbo in the first place? Cmon, now! Shed have married for lots of money anyway, but with Flubbos connections she was able not only to secure passage to America for herself but also for her parents. Wealth and a secure family in addition to the glitz and glamor! Whats more to want?
Her full story might actually be interesting, even absorbing. She may have suffered abuse of one kind or another and been forced to see the albeit lucrative kindness of strangers. On the other hand, she may be well-adjusted and cold-hearted a climber who sought ways to improve her financial condition using her body. Or both. An interesting novel or something there. Maybe an anti-Hallmark movie?

(7,947 posts)Vanity fair had an article about her life before 2016, and how empty it was of the usual rich new Yorker activities, the party giving and the charities and the theater and European travel. The only real rich thing she did much was fashion.
And once they got into the white house, her apathy and Trump's indifference to anything but himself made it a cultural desert..
No music, only two state dinners, no celebrations. Of course, her antipathy towards him meant she was seldom there at all, but compared to the Obama years with the amazing honor ceremonies-- Aretha singing Natural Woman to Carole king!- Trumps showed themselves to be philistines.

(9,090 posts)that on faulty brain circuitry burned in by right handed masturbation. we just had a pandemic increase in frustration and masturbation.
trump and by extension melania lathered themselves in royal i'm-never-wrong certitude, as if someone like roy cohn or putin explained the secret of authoritarian power to the orange turd
an increase in fear, stress etc causes most (right handed) humans to crave certainty/avoid uncertainty more. accepting irrational non existent certainty (that the trumps represent) requires denial of reality. according to sowb theory rationalizing that denial requires using brain circuitry that authoritarian belief systems cultivate which activate the underused right brain for creativity (needed to rationalize and excuse the denial) and that sends reproductive energy where it should have gone originally if not for the wrong handed masturbation, to create pleasure. the absolutism and judgmentalism and racism and lying creates certainty and feels good.
or something like that - [link:http://www.sexonthewrongbrain.com/theory/|sexonthewrongbrain.com/theory/

while the sex on the wrong brain theory explains it's generally less of a problem in women due to anatomical and mechanical considerations the book of the same name, a science fiction comedy, suggests that a vibrating dildo held in the wrong hand (boebert, taylor greene etc) could make the sowb worse
maybe ask her about a vibrating dildo?

I recently read the book Melania and Me and it's fascinating. It's difficult to describe exactly how shallow and self-centered Melania actually is. She almost makes Donald look thoughtful and caring. All the way through the book I kept on being astonished that the author somehow could not see just what Melania was really like. Eventually she did, but way too late.

(11,563 posts)My bil, for one. A very smart man, a graduate engineer whose career was in something you could be forgiven for thinking might be at least leaning left - environmental engineering.
Both of his parents (father now deceased) and his two siblings are, at the very least, mainstream Democrats, and VERY progressive on some, if not all issues. Somehow, he became a big fan of Cheelolini.
It's a mystery and a source of consternation in the family, but a) They are a "we're still family no matter what" family...and b) he is far from obnoxious. Never brings it up, it's just the hidden elephant in the room.
(I hadn't realized until I typed it out how well that cliched metaphor was going to work.)
