The guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is the latest set of recommendations for people who are two weeks past their final shot, and for those who have not yet been inoculated. The guidelines address growing calls from infectious-disease and other public health experts to relax mask mandates for the outdoors because breezes disperse airborne virus particles, distancing is easier, and humidity and sunlight render the coronavirus less viable.
For that reason, the guidance also says even unvaccinated individuals may go without masks when walking, jogging or biking outdoors with household members. However, officials caution that crowded outdoor settings still pose risks and urge everyone both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals to wear masks when attending sporting events, live performances and parades.

(6,974 posts)And am still going to wear my mask when I venture outside. I'm still going to socially distance, keep my hands washed, make sure my food items are cleaned and scrubbed and be very careful of who I allow into my home.
I'm sticking with my routine even if the CDC says that we can ease up on some Covid-19 restrictions.

(7,510 posts)Typically people exit their cars without masks and put them on while walking through the parking lot to the store around here.

(2,769 posts)... while walking my dogs in my neighborhood.
Why?
1. I'm almost always alone. If I meet other neighbors, we pass on opposite sides of the street.
2. It's outside. Transmission is close to zero.
3. I'm fully vaccinated.

(11,457 posts)In case people come close but like you most change sides of street or I do.
But on few times I go to a park I wear a mask when people are around.
I do mask up in my car of parking lots figuring many people coming and going and could be coughing and sneezing.
I am fully vaccinated too.

(20,135 posts)Especially at night. Theres nobody anywhere nearby. The mask is pointless in that case.
Im in the city so I wear it when Im walking on the sidewalk unless its completely dead.

(13,493 posts)so it's common for people to wear masks here. Venturing on and off subways, in and out of stores, etc. I'll probably stop wearing them to Prospect park for walks/bike rides, but have one on me Just in case. And of course, wear them on more crowded streets! But we are in a high volume neighborhood. The needs here are very different than the needs in smaller towns!

(20,135 posts)Usually in the evening though. On weekdays its pretty empty where I am. We take the dog and take our masks off. If we come upon people well put back them on if we pass close.

(13,493 posts)Sunny weekends can be a bit of a madhouse, but we walk the trails a lot or find a nice spot near the boat house that isn't too crowded and have lunch. We are so lucky to have had PP right near us to get through the last year. We discovered a lot of nooks and crannies that I was oblivious to before! Hope you love it too.
(One of our favorite things to do is visit doggy beach on a nice day and watch them all swim! Or off leash hours in the meadow! Our daughter would love a dog, but we travel too much in non-covid life to feel comfortable having a dog.)

Last summer I wore one even on the bike trail - but at the end of the ride I was having more difficulty feeling out of breath than usual. So - now that I'm fully vaccinated, I'll probably skip the mask on the trail.
But it's habit that before I get out of my car, I put my mask on. It's sort of like my coat - it's easier to wear it than continually put in on and off based on whether I need it.

(26,579 posts)We take walks around the neighborhood and don't mask unless there are other people nearby.
I don't see changing my behavior after I'm fully vaxxed, except that we'll probably get out to places where we're more likely to run into people. Especially once the weather gets better. Will still mask.
Hope I can get my twelve year olds done soon.

(205,289 posts)I read up on all the precautions that they plan to be taking and they sound daunting - especially since I had a summer job there back in the day and I know how people behaved then. I drove the train that ran through the park and people thought nothing of stepping right in front of me. It was "Fantasyland," after all.
