So, I'm trying to plan my menu for next year, using only 4 pounds of red meat.

I mean, how do I do that? Now, I don't eat a lot of red meat, anyhow, but with only four pounds to work with, and 52 weeks in the year, it's going to be hard to stretch it out. I don't know how I'm going to stretch out just one pound to last for thirteen weeks.

Maybe those paper-thin frozen hamberder patties? A 1-oz burger, once a week, for 10 weeks, with a double cheeseberder per week on the menu for for three weeks? That would work.

Or, maybe I could make meatballs from my 13-week, one-pound supply. Small meatballs. Tiny meatballs. Put one on a toasted breadstick slice, with a bit of tomato paste and some parmesan cheese. That sounds filling.

Either that or just throw caution to the wind and buy a 4-pound chuck roast and make pot roast for New Years Day, and be done with it altogether.

Any other recipe ideas to make four pounds of beef last for a year?

I'm making a joke. I guess I assumed that DUers follow the news.

For example, Fox News host Jesse Watters said Saturday that "Americans are going to have to cut their red meat consumption by 90% in order to reduce emissions to hit Biden's target. That means you're only allowed to eat four pounds of red meat a year. That adds up to a burger a month. That's it."

It's supposed to be humorous. I'm not the one that turned it into a thread on vegetarianism. It. Is. A. Joke.

That joke is based on a news story that broke a couple of days ago. It was covered by all of the major networks and newspapers. It's not a minor story, really. It's about just how stupid the Republicans and their toadies truly are.

It's not a pro-meat thread. It's not an anti-vegetarian thread, nor an anti-vegan thread.

It. Is. A. Joke.

I am not the one who needs to lighten up here.

A microtome (from the Greek mikros, meaning "small", and temnein, meaning 'to cut') is a cutting tool used to produce extremely thin slices of material.

A good rotary microtome can get you into the micron realm, but costs north of two thousand dollars.

Their aunts and uncles were ranchers and dairy people. They always had plenty of red meat, no rationing coupons required. Tires and gasoline were the greater inconveniences.

My wife is vegetarian approaching vegan, and I'm nearly vegetarian. Four pounds of red meat annually is no hardship.

When this pandemic is over and I'm hanging out with our more carnivorous relatives again I'll likely be throwing a lot of non-factory-farm red meat on the BBQ.

Red meat goes well with plant-and-fungi based vegan beer.

12 dinners, one per month. But I recommend grilled or other simple handling to maximize beef flavor and then thin sliced on and alongside other good stuff.

Seriously, nonsense as this little big lie is, with the climate crisis leading to serious price inflation for beef, we've already had to discover, to our happy surprise, that 1/3 pound is a satisfying serving, every bite enjoyed, complementing and complemented by other good things on the plate.

It's the once a month thing, though, instead of 2 or 3 times now.

In our case I suppose that could be eked out courtesy of the herd of 7 deer we left last fall had become a herd of 11 cavorting in our little pasture the other evening. I'm not that crazy about venison, though. Obviously.
