Ex-cop who killed Tamir Rice files appeal to get job back

The Cleveland police officer who was fired several years after fatally shooting Tamir Rice filed an appeal to get reinstated.

The Ohio state appellate court previously dismissed a case brought by Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association on behalf of former officer Timothy Loehmann, but the union has asked the state Supreme Court to reverse the appellate court’s decision. The case was dismissed because the union did serve notice on outside attorneys hired by the city, according to the ruling.

Loehmann was fired in 2017 for providing false information on his job application. However, in November 2014 he shot and killed Tamir Rice, 12, who was playing outside a recreation center. According to footage, Loehmann began firing within seconds after arriving after someone called 911 and said someone who might be a juvenile was waving a gun around. Tamir Rice was playing with a pellet gun. The shooting was later deemed justified.

This suit is a perfect example of why a lot of us have a very negative view of police unions. 🤬 ShazzieB Apr 2021 #1

That it intends to request extradition of Mr. Loehmann to stand trial for crimes against humanity.

Cases like Tamir Rice that were cited in the report.

problem. The "character" of the individuals hired by police departments is far more important than any amount of training they receive.
