She said she knows she cant physically stop people from being vaccinated, adding, I have to draw a line in the sand today and tell you if you want to get it, this is not going to be the right school for you. Especially right now when we dont know whats going on. I dont want our community to be a part of this experiment.
Psaki seemed somewhat dumbfounded by the schools policy when she was asked about it at her daily press briefing on Tuesday.
Obviously, our objective is continuing to convey that its important to abide by public health guidelines, that theyre in place for a reason, that they are not done through a political prism, she said. Theyre done by medical experts, by health experts intended to keep children safe, keep parents safe, keep teachers safe, keep communities safe, which is why we recommend people abide by them.

(14,918 posts)through Florida's school voucher program!

..."The story was also causing waves at the state Capitol, where lawmakers, just expanded the use of vouchers. State officials confirmed the Centner Academy does accept taxpayer dollars through the voucher program money that would otherwise be used in the public school system.
Its absolute lunacy and it goes against everything thats well understood and well accepted in the scientific community, said State Sen. Jason Pizzo, who represents the district where the Centner Academy has two campuses. To go ahead and to basically threaten faculty and staff members that if they are vaccinated, or to make up some idea that there are some unnamed disease thats transmitted thats affecting peoples menstrual cycles and provoking and invoking miscarriages, is beyond bizarre.
Pizzo said he is demanding the states Surgeon General weigh in and dispel these dangerous conspiracy theories the school is promoting. He said he has also asked the state Department of Education to examine whether the school is violating any laws or policies.
Their official response is theyre not actually violating any policy because theres no policy on the books, he said.
The Centners are major Republican donors, having contributed to candidates at the national and state level, including Gov. Ron DeSantis."...(more)

(5,111 posts)Of course thats in the very expensive Bay Area. The school did offer pretty generous financial aid. Some 6-12 around here at $45 k about 8 years ago. Of this is the School Zuckerbergs kids will like attend, so there is tons of financial aid for normal people. My son was admitted to one of these schools but be decided to go with something less chi-chi at $17k. I made the decision that I wanted my black son to have the same education at the kids of millionaires and billionaires. For me it was an uncomfortable experience as a parent because I couldnt relate with the rich, pampered moms. We were both working like dogs. I was always hearing about their skiing trips to Park City and Aspen. In retrospect, it wasnt worth but whos to say? My son was never a scholar, but hes in a good place and holding his own. I went to really shitty inner city 99% black schools and vowed that I would do better for my kids.

(2,100 posts)Of the health insurance privacy laws. Any teacher can refuse to answer that question since it illegally probes into the teachers medical history. If the teacher is fired or is not hired because of not answering has a legitimate case to sue and to take the school to the labor department.

(6,820 posts)or any of the departments we've grown accustomed to presume extant. Department of agriculture? I can't really be certain if the growing zones are even the same. Used to be zone 8a in the north all the way to zone 11a in the keys but not so sure lately. There have been wild bananas growing beside the 8b creek next door at least 17 years and they bore fruit last year for the first time. My 9 year old potted pineapple has its first baby on the way, won't say who the father is, since I moved it permanently outdoors in '19. We've had plenty of rain so far yet the lawn seems to be on strike. Lawn mower's not complaining and that's weird too. Never buy top-of-the-line lawn implements unless you can tolerate their better-than-thou attitude. Not sure if it's global climate change, cell phone towers, regional politics or the covid-19 vaccine, but there has been no below 32 degree temp for the last 3 years. That could be because of the vaccine storage requirements. Things get confusing when one tries to theorize a sensical explanation for all the unbelievable stuff one notices. Gotta' run, it's time for the mower's mid-morning massage.

(35,662 posts)My brother who is trying to flee that town talks to me about this just about every other day.
He recently observed a local jerk barreling down a gravel road in a pickup truck with the windows open. Of course he stirred up a cloud of dust and when he had to screech to a halt at the stop sign, the dust came into his pickup cab and he started coughing. My brother who was observing started laughing. The guy flipped him off, which caused further amusement.
My brother remarked, "These people don't think, even when it's to their own advantage."
