3. Actually, "The Oscars" is a far more elegant name

"Elegance" is when something is precise and simple without a lot of unnecessary ornamentation so "The Oscars" conveys exactly what it's supposed to while "The Academy Awards" asks the question "which academy?" Is it possible that the former president doesn't know what the word "elegant" means?
