http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/10/10/walmart-worker-strikes-go-viral-hitting-28-stores-in-12-states/Walmart workers who recently went on strike in Illinois and California appear to have inspired some of their fellow big box employees, and now it looks like the movement is going viral.
Labor leaders said Tuesday, just one day before Walmarts annual shareholder meeting, that workers at 28 stores in 12 states walked out and went on strike to demand the anti-union employer raise wages, improve working conditions and end retaliations against employees who attempt to form unions.
Its not a hard sell because these people are tired of being treated the way we are being treated by Walmart, Evelin Cruz, a striking Walmart worker in the Los Angeles area, told Raw Story on Wednesday. They disregard us as workers. They think that we are machines, we should have no emotions. We should not have families. We should not have the right to speak. So its pretty easy to convince people to get on-board. We need to have more voices around the country being heard with the same message, because it is the same situation in every store and throughout their supply chain.

(11,464 posts)maybe we can be lucky-
as Walmart don't tolerate unions, and will close a store before having one, can we dream and have every single Walmart nationwide go out of business, replaced by thriving Mom and Pops earning a decent wage like they did before Walmart killed the American dream
Those $4 drugs sound nice but then you do realize you get what you pay for when you deal with the devil(and I consider IMHO Walmart the devil).

(36,925 posts)Many decades ago I would see periods what seemed like highs and lows in unionization. The GOP smear machine has managed to convince people that unions are bad and they have been on decline for decades. It would be quite refreshing to see an uptick in union participation and I can't think of any company that deserves it more than Wal-Mart.
If they are still picketing in Dallas when my day off rolls around, I'm going to bring them some cold drinks, bought at somewhere other than Wal-mart.
