(76,718 posts)Trump was so desperate to stay in power because he needed the DoJ and Bill Barr to block
investigations into crimes.
Even Bill Barr had his limits and when he saw Trump's upcoming attempted to coup in order
to overthrow the Government to keep Biden from becoming President he quit.

(76,718 posts)He stopped the Iran/Contra investigations by having HW issue pardons and he and Rob
Rosenstein ran a neat little game on Mueller making it impossible for the investigation
from getting to Trump. Barr had his made up "law" that a sitting President can not be
indicted and Rosenstein limited Mueller to just Trump and Russia but then Mueller couldn't
do anything because when the time came and the proof was there he couldn't indict Trump.
Barr was Trump's consigliere kind of like Tom Hagen in "The Godfather" but I think he bolted
because he wanted no part in Donny's attempted coup.

(4,047 posts)have the weight it has, or that they gave it, but it is something that must be discarded, it doesn't make any sense, it simply protects a criminal in the WH.
That "opinion" was brought out during Nixon.
I have a suspicion that Giuliani must have already deleted most of the evidence against him. I just hope it is in the cloud.

(76,718 posts)... Barr's phony ass law (which in essence said that a POTUS is above the law) then where do
you go with your complaints? The DoJ under Barr or a Federal court that might very well have
a Judge on it appointed by w bush or Trump.
Mr.Bill
(24,906 posts)he would have said "You think I can't indict a sitting President? Just watch me."

(76,718 posts)... bank accounts, and then used that money to run an illegal war in central America (Nicaragua)
against people who never did anything to any American. BTW they also had a nice little cocaine
running operation too. Reagan got out of being held accountable because of his dementia and HW
and his crew got out of trouble because Barr had H.W. issue a lot of pardons.

(154 posts)..that the Trump administration dismantled.
As they indict, "turn", and process more Jan 6 insurrectionists, these things have a way of expanding. I really hope the Biden team remains vigilant and remembers the outcome of previous GOP shenanigans.
From Reagan on, every Republican president has performed more blatantly illegal behavior. It has to be addressed. It has to stop.
This time, Trump actually tried to overthrow the government. Next time, they'll succeed.

"FBI agents sought permission to search Giulianis apartment last summer, but officials at DOJ headquarters didnt green-light the move because of rules limiting some steps in the lead-up to elections."

That rule is long-standing, I believe. In fact it's the one that James Comey violated when he discussed Hillary's further emails discovered on a laptop AFTER early voting was underway in many states.
