(21,339 posts)Her Jack Russel terrier and the cat got into a game of chase indoors. The layout of her house allowed them to go in a circle, from kitchen to living room to foyer and back to the kitchen.
After several rounds, the cat leaped onto a little decorative table in the foyer and watched the dog circle around. When the dog ran past the table, the cat leaned to the edge and tapped the dog's head. Dog looked up but could not reach the table top. After a couple more head taps, the dog took off running again and the cat jumped down to join the race. This went on for quite a while, repeating the table leap, head swat, etc.
When they wore themselves out, they curled up together on the couch for a nap.
This was some time ago. No cell phones then. Would have made a great video.

(13,976 posts)when she hears the chicks peeping in the bathroom.
As a two year-old she killed Wuxie, a neighbor's best friend. With great enjoyment.

(4,540 posts)She could hear, but not see, them in my neighbor's yard. They were monsters! The first time she ever saw one loose and could associate sound with critter, she went nuts. Fortunately, that chicken was on the other side of a wire fence, so was unharmed. Now, she barks viciously at chickens on the TV (she at least knows better than to attack the TV). I have no doubt whatsoever what she would do to one she could grab. It would not be a friendly game of chase! However, had she grown up with them, like this sweet pup, it would likely be a different story.

(6,799 posts)The neighbors had chickens and the inevitable chicks racing all over their back yard and ours. Our dog, 6 mos. old Abigail, thought they were great fun. Wife saw her trying to toss one into the air, apparently to encourage the flight of the young chicken, right? Wife went up to the 65 lb. "puppy". "Abigail, drop it". The dog sticks her tongue out as far as it would go and out rolls a chick. Would be a great story to say about now how the chick stood up, shook itself and ran back into Abby's mouth for more fun...... but alas. The best that came from it was the epitome of regret and genuine sorrow which showed upon that young hound's face. Not sure, though, if it was the loss of a playmate's will to take on the challenge or the scolding. That remains speculation. None better than a Weimie, for my money. Tough and true.
I dread the thought of a bloodbath here, and while it's not inevitable, all it will take is one moment of laxity.
Fighting nature is always a losing proposition in the long term.

(3,334 posts)The dogs and cats live in the house but we have a pet door so they can go out back anytime they want. The chickens, turkeys, and rabbits live in the back yard which is 3/4 of an acre fenced in. They all get along fine.
