Is Flordia, Ohio, and Iowa lost of us now?

Looking at the results in 2020 we lost Flordia more then we did in 2016. Ohio and Iowa we lost around the same amount. Do we have a good stragety to take these states back or is this lost to us premantly and we should move on to other states? Will Obama be the last Democratic President to win state wide in all three.

We lost Florida in 16, 18 and 20
We lost Ohio in 16, 18 and 20
We did well in the House in Iowa in 18 and lost them in 20.

We have a better chance of winning Texas and North Carolina, and building on the wins in Arizona and Georgia than winning those states.

I'm a Floridian. I live in South Florida and was born here. My family's here. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else (except maybe Dallas, Texas or Atlanta, GA).

In 2018, we lost by such a small amount that it actually gave me hope (even though we lost a Senate seat) that Dems can win statewide elections in 2020. 2020 dashed most of that hope.

Dems winning a senate seat or the governorship is really starting to look like a small and distant possibility now.

Many Floridians are of Cuban descent and have bad feelings about socialism because of Castro. Republicans used their demagogue tactics to illicit that fear against Democrats. Never mind that the Democratic platform has nothing to do with socialism. Republicans successfully used that against Democrats, and we didn't have a good response to it.

BTW, Republicans are a lot closer to fascism than Democrats are to socialism, but I've never heard a Democrat accuse a Republican of being fascist.

We lost Florida because not enough blacks and democratic-supporting Hispanics came out in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. We won all those three counties, but not by a sufficient margin to overcome trump in the redneck central and northern areas of the State.

Retiree's stay put. But those working move to where the jobs are or higher paying jobs.

In the case of Florida and Ohio, yeah, there may be more jobs, but given GOP slashing worker protections, encourage lower pay, etc. It forced D voters out.

Whereas Texas, continues to encourage entire companies to resettle there...but it also brings in more D voters.

the state . In Florida a lot of anti govt anti tax types move into the state

THe opposite happened with Arizona and Georgia where people that tend to be more liberal moved there.

There might be a chance to win Senate in Ohio with Tim Ryan . He seems to know what to do which would turn the state less right wing again but can he convince them to do it. I think people might listen to him and Biden .

Not hopeless. Went for Obama the first time, might well vote Dem again. Population is increasing, and a lot of that is from people from blue states moving for cheaper cost of living and natural beauty. Asheville, Charlotte, Piedmont Triangle, Research Triangle are all urban areas that are generally blue.

I grew up in VA, and when I was young, we thought NC was kind of a beacon of liberal hope and VA was hopelessly red. At the same time, our neighbor WV was the MOST reliably Democratic state in the area! How things change. Things can always change. Take nothing for granted and keep a close eye on demographic trends.

with the gerrymander and going on 12 years of GOP governors, the party is in disarray. The Democratic Party is weak here in Ohio. As for Iowa and Florida...Iowa maybe but Florida no way...demographics will still happen...may be delayed with their anti-voter bullshit but it will happen.

elections...the states were pretty much ignored during the first two years of the Obama administration and we ended up with a gerrymander that still exists in many states. And the 'message voters' ended any hope of getting any of our policies enacted when we lost the house and later the Senate. I always wonder what exactly is the message when you help cause a president to lose? If every Democrat shows up in 22 like it was 20...we will likely win. Presidential elections are great and exciting. But every election is important.

The former guy was happy to bribe voters with taxpayer bailouts but I don't know how much political difference that made in rural states. I think the bailouts were necessary because his trade war with China led them to stop buying some U.S. crops. I don't know where all that stands now or how much trade can be restored.
