(13,370 posts)I retired in 1999, still under DADT - this is great. However, I am sad a big deal is made of the situation it should be considered normal.

(51,322 posts)Whats the fourth man for? Is he a rescue swimmer? The Army sends that bird out with only three crewmembers - two pilots and a crew chief.

(3,579 posts)We've had MANY gay helicopter crews over the decades. This is the first one allowed to be open about it!
The threat and pressure that stifled so many of my friends over my lifetime, and ruined the careers of still others, is past. I did not think I'd see this in my lifetime until very, very recently. I'm so proud of them and so thrilled for all of our brave women and men in uniform that can be open about who they love.
I hope that, over time, we never forget the enormous sacrifice that gay soldiers made as we all slowly chipped away at prejudice and hate. Many soldiers paid with their health, their careers, their sanity, and insufferable sacrifice. Their contribution to history and our country has made this moment in American progress possible, so that every gay person in uniform no longer has to look over their shoulder or lie awake in fear or give up their career because they LOVE someone, in their private life, that bigots do not approve of.
Gentlemen, you are standing on the shoulders of women and men who suffered gravely so that you can achieve the success you have attained free from fear, want, or threat.
Never forget who has given you this opportunity.
Congratulations to all my gay sisters and brothers in the military!

(51,322 posts)Im surprised the homophobic support our troops gang hasnt claimed the tilted tail rotor on H-60s (its tilted because theres too much weight aft of the main rotor; the tilted rotor keeps the tail from hanging way down there in flight) means H-60s are gay helicopters.
