One Republican senator argued on Saturday that it's time for people to stop asking him about why he voted with the insurrectionists the night of the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.
CNN anchor Pamela Brown noted a new poll showing that 70% of Republicans believe the "Big Lie" that Donald Trump won the 2020 election.
"You voted to toss out millions of votes in Arizona and Pennsylvania, you also joined on to the Texas lawsuit attempting to throw out votes cast in four states," Brown noted as Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) nodding his head in affirmation.

Hey Roger can I call you Roger, you also voted to acquit your leader of your fascists' party, did you also voted to not send articles of impeachment over to the senate when you where in the house, and then you voted to throw out not only my vote and millions of others and you want people to "move on".......you basically supported an insurrection......

But, if you call them out for being truly manipulative assholes, they try to turn it around on you.

The spirit of forgiveness can go and jump. Maybe later. When the above is sorted.
'Moving on' can be done while doing the above surely? Multitasking!

(82,849 posts)Let me know how you feel about setting Leonard Peltier free. Or Mumia Abu-Jamal. Or Crystal Mason. If you can't see your way clear to letting any of those people out of jail, today, I'm disinclined to listen to any pleas for bygones to be bygones from you. Come out with a public statement, and stand by it in the face of all the pushback you'll get from your party, and I'll consider your plea for forgiveness.

Translation: "It's time for all y'all to forgive us for trying to overthrow the federal government and forget that we tried to overturn the results of a free and fair election. Because WE want to move on."
Sorry, not happening. If you want to see a spirit of forgiveness, you need io confess that you did a very bad thing. Offer your deep and profound apologies. And then you need to get down on your knees and beg for forgiveness.
Even then, most of us probably won't forgive you, and NONE of us will ever forget. But you should do that anyway, because confession is good for the soul, and-- wait, you don't have a soul, do you? You sold that to Donald Trump back in 2016 whe you made him your party's candidate for president. Looks like you're screwed, doesn't it?
So much for forgiveness. Please accept this tiny violin and enjoy the sad song it's playing for you.

(12,864 posts)Hey Roger, there can be no "forgiveness" or "moving on" while you continue to refer to LIES as facts.
The first thing you and your Republican cohorts have to do is very publicly proclaim the election was NOT stolen from Donald Trump, and that Joe Biden legitimately won.
Next, even more importantly, you and your Republican cohorts in state governments have to cease and desist in all your efforts to suppress voting rights. Instead, get behind and help pass the federal legislation now being put forward to secure those rights.
Until you disabuse your constituents of their belief in the BIG LIE and reverse voter suppression laws promoted by the BIG LIE, there can be NO forgiveness or moving on.
But, of course, we know you won't do any of those things because you and your party can't hold onto political power without voter suppression and gerrymandering and constantly manipulating your base with BIG LIES and conspiracy theories and racial fearmongering.
In order to truly MAKE AMERICA GREAT it is absolutely necessary to rid American politics of you and the decades of lies and thinly veiled white supremacy so thoroughly embodied in the former guy you tried to re-install during the Jan 6 coup attempt.
Forgiveness requires genuine repentance in both words and actions. Nobody is holding their breath waiting for you to do the right thing.

A golden statue of Donald Trump, that says it all.
We have midterms coming up. I suspect that's why this guy is sniffling now. Boo hoo, A$$hole.

As forgiving you...not a chance. Start helping the Democrats pass legislation to help the country, starting with the Voting Rights Act, and then we'll talk about forgiveness.

(22,114 posts)continue to cling onto the ridiculous notion that rump won the Nov. 2020 election. No peace, no rest until everyone of you is thrown out of office the 'legal' way instead of an insurrection like you all supported on 1/6/21. If you want to change things, then do it the right way, the standard political processes that have been part of the American landscape for centuries.

(11,085 posts)I understand President Johnson didn't want to hang EVERYBODY in the South who committed treason because that use up all the rope. But if he made an example of a few ringleaders and let them symbolically take the blame for everyone else, we might not see racists waving confederate flags, or see so many monuments to the leaders of the confederacy. Maybe not so many people would deny that the Civil War was about slavery. Maybe fewer people would deny that modern day reverence for the memory of the confederacy is really about racism.
