Most of us have noticed the love, the excitement, the pride in someone's voice and demeanor

when they're talking about a beloved child or grandchild making honor roll or scoring the winning touchdown or basket.

What does it say about someone who talks that way about their rifle or their "5 shot group at 100 yards"?

I have a vehicle that is just about the worst thing on this planet for the environment. But damn it I love that thing. And hey just because I might be helping kill the planet we live in fuck everyone because I love that thing. And the constitution says I can have it even though I might be killing your children's planet or maybe grandma. So there, I love it and it gives me pride so fuck you all.

It says they are proud of their target shooting skills. People with guns are mostly NORMAL people. You paint with a broad brush with this coment.

In my opinion gunners enable folks like this who darn sure aren't training for society's benefit:

I think it was Elk at well over 100 yards. I lost some respect for them for that. Picking one out of a herd grazing. Trophy hunters like that and trumps kids are sick. The night of drinking was a dig not needed. Many get stoned.

I know quite a few hunters, target shooters and reloaders. They can discuss muzzle velocities and the relative advantages of this or that brand of ammunition with anyone. Some even cast th brir own bullets.

But, they, like me, long ago abandoned the NRA and the extremism on some discussion boards. My "broad brush" excludes such NORMAL gun owners.

And was part of a tank crew that shot a superior score in live-fire training.

But the accomplishment I was proudest of during my time in the Army was being nominated for the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy before I was even in a promotable status. That may not sound like much to a civilian, but it earned me a lot of praise from my superiors. Upon graduating from the NCO Academy, I was given the Commandant's Award, one of only four awards given out to a class of a hundred or so.

The things I'm proudest of have nothing to do with firearms.

I guess if one has no greater achievements in life...
