Husband still has a flip and likes it. I have an Iphone. Verizon just informed him that his 3G will end July 31st. He wants to stick with a flip but there is not much out there. I am sure they are becoming dinosaurs. Any advice/info on this situation would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When I wanted a dinosaur phone, I looked on eBay. There were quite a few available at much more reasonable prices than new. Some are new, some are refurbished.

(19,491 posts)I left Verizon recently because they defrauded me for 2 years. I have consumer cellular now, pay 38/month for 1 line.
FYI, You can buy a flip phone at target for like 20-30 bucks. Probably 4glte.

(61,033 posts)I got the go-phone deal and just pay $45.00 a month for a phone with a big enough screen to view websites, text message and email. Something you can't do on the tiny flip phone screens. And it's flat and doesn't produce that big bulge in your pocket.
Or, you may be like May West: "Is that a flip phone in your pocket or are you just happy to see me."
you people sure came thru in a HURRY! I sent the entire conversation to my husband's Email and he will check it all out. Thanks SO MUCH for all the help. DU rocks. So when he gets his new phone I am hoping he is just happy to see me . . . lol

(24,906 posts)I have had it for 15 years. It can text, but no internet capability. Last november the guy at the Verizon store told me after January 1st it will no longer work. They have been telling me that for five years and the phone still works.

(142 posts)I'm seeing that AT&T is going to shut down the 3G service next February. Won't be able to get calls and texts with my phone starting then. Damn, I really liked this phone too. Suppose I need to get another one soon.

(14,118 posts)offer at least two 4G-compatable flip phones now and when I look at my local big box store
other service providers do the same thing.

(17,728 posts)At that time I couldn't find a flip phone. I pay $10 a month for the Tracfone service. Do you mind if I ask what model you have and how you manage to only pay $6.67? Is it because you don't have internet on it?
I still have a land line and will keep it as long as I can because it's bundled with my internet and it only costs me $12 a month. I find that very reasonable for unlimited phone calls.

(25,746 posts)For some reason, I get double the minutes printed on the card. Which doesn't really matter, because I use the phone so rarely that I always have excess minutes.

(17,728 posts)I have the lowest monthly plan they offer and I have so many excess minutes right now. I don't like it that they will not allow you to use up the excess minutes unless you continue the monthly plan. It makes no sense to me. I think I'll go back to buying a card instead. I rarely even turn my phone on.

It's on her keyring and is the size of your thumb finger when closed--length, width and thickness.
I should say she bought in Japan, it might have been made in China.

(17,757 posts)We were in the phone store a couple of weeks ago to upgrade my wife's smart phone and I inquired about my flip phone. They do have a flip phone that is 5G or whatever the minimum standard still available. I use a phone to make calls, that is all, if I want to communicate with someone, I want to talk to them. I know that I am a dinosaur, but, hey, I have earned the right!
