In late March, I went to the care clinic doctor with what I assumed was a sinus infection. No fever, but a heavy feeling in the sinus area. The doctor did not suggest, nor did I ask for, a Covid19 test.
In early April, I was still dealing with the issue. Until I fainted at home, and the care clinic suggested going to the hospital.
Covid19 positive. 12 days in the hospital, receiving antibody plasma, various drugs for infection, and oxygen for my pneumonia. After 9 days on what they call high flow oxygen, I was really and truly ready to go home. The doctor said that they could not send me home until/unless I was on low flow.
3 days later, after gradually reducing to low flow, I had a talk with the doctor. She said that I was her first patient to go from high flow to release in 3 days, and we talked about lifestyle and general health. She started by saying that it was obvious from my overall condition that I exercise regularly. And I do, running and lifting every week. 45 years of working out and running. The doctor said that, and my attitude, was the reason I was walking out at all.
The thing is, I never had a temperature, and I became infected between the first and second shot, when I assumed that I had partial immunity.
Please everyone, get the shots. And if you can, exercise.
Finally, what would really make me feel better right now would be seeing Trump in court.
Stay safe.

(26,260 posts)She was contacted by her employer, shortly after her first Moderna jab, and told she might have been exposed to someone with Covid. She took the test, got a positive result and went into a 2 week quarantine. She never developed any symptoms so it's a good thing she was notified and given the test.

(21,433 posts)so happy to feel like I had at least some partial protection that I caught myself getting a little lax. Corrected that immediately because I knew I was still vulnerable. Even after the second shot, I continue to double mask, social distance, use hand sanitizer, wash hands immediately when I get home, etc. Since vaccinations are not 100% effective, why tempt fate?

You and yours stay safe, Guill.

The stupidity virus is spreading.

Take care

(44,973 posts)Covid is weird, some people are barely affected. Like my elderly relative, who didn't exercise yet had virtually no symptoms after testing positive.
malaise
(268,952 posts)I know someone else who never exercises and recovered - she had received her first vaccine. She was not expected to make it
LisaL
(44,973 posts)I am not telling anyone not to exercise. But I don't think anybody figured out yet why some people are asymptomatic (like my elderly relative, who is not in best health by any means) and some are severely affected.

(3,858 posts)But it certainly is a factor in overall health. Obesity is one of the primary COVID comorbidities. Obviously it's not 100%, but being in shape is certainly a factor.

(23,654 posts)How easily it could have gone in a terrible different direction. What probably saved you was at least some vaccine in your system and your generally good physical condition. Take care. Sincerely thrilled youre still with us.

Sending vibes for a complete recovery for you.
and glad to hear you are close to safety.

(22,511 posts)Busy with projects. I assumed that was still the reason for your absence here, but you've had Covid! So happy you were able to beat it, but watch out for latent effects! I've heard of brain and heart problems showing up later, so don't shrug anything off. You might Google Covid effects that show up later to be more informed as to what to look for. Glad you beat the doctor's experience!!!

(15,642 posts)positive Covid, but more especially vaccines in your research? My adult son had GBS 20 years ago and is still hesitant about the vaccine.

(15,642 posts)before that. My sons leaning toward the vaccine, but hes also been advised that he might want to wait a bit longer till more data is in. His decision, but Im hoping he decides ultimately to get the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine. From what Ive gathered, hes at greater risk from Covid itself.

(32,634 posts)I'm sure this was far from a "nice" experience, but your many years of exercise and conditioning have given your heart and lungs a fighting chance.
I'm wondering if possibly you had been exposed to the virus even before your first shot? Something similar happened to my nephew who was waiting on tables in a high-end restaurant. The waitstaff all wear masks of course, but customers sitting at tables will normally remove their masks when eating their food.
So my nephew George got his first shot in March, but then he developed Covid symptoms (mild case) about a week later. He knows where he caught it, but not when.
Congratulations my friend, and keep wearing your mask.

(36,460 posts)For the first half of my adult life I never exercised & every winter season I'd get at least one cold that would last for a week. Then when I hit 40 I started to gain a little weight & decided to start an easy exercise routineI walked & hiked. And I haven't had a cold since. That was 21 years ago. I remember cuz I attended a fitness event & my family was like, "You're going where & doing what?"
Take care of yourself, Gill. Sending positive thoughts & vibes!
