They're both sides--ing us again.
Caught Cuomo saying the repubs will get back the Senate and 'get things done' while that freaking Tea party sympathizer from Philly nodded his head in approval.

(24,437 posts)I hate that the conventional wisdom seems to be that the Dems will lose in the midterms next year. Hopefully, we maintain a high level voter enthusiasm next year and that the Trumpublican base is depressed without Trump being on the ballot. I hope Democrats and progressives understand that we need to keep plugging away at Republican majorities at the state and local level too. The more Democrats we elect the more progressive legislation we can get through/more regressive legislation we can block and the less that holdouts like Manchin and Sinema will stop up the works.

(29,322 posts)The thing is based on future trends Democrats should have a blue wave every election but the recent elections have been too close for comfort.
Democrats have another advantage.
Democrats Start 2022 Cycle With an Edge in Voter Enthusiasm
81% of Democrats say theyre at least somewhat excited about voting in the midterms, compared to 72% of Republicans

Roughly 7 in 10 suburban and rural voters express early motivation to show up at the polls next year, compared to nearly 8 in 10 of their urban peers.

At the same time, there was a significant gap between those who supported Biden and those who backed Trump in 2020. Roughly 3 in 10 Trump voters said they were not enthusiastic about voting in the midterms, compared with 19 percent of Biden voters who said the same.

(24,437 posts)Just for once I'd like to buck those trends like Republicans did in the '02 midterms. I feel like Democratic Presidents since Clinton have only gotten 2 years to really get stuff done, then Republicans manage to get voted back in to obstruct them the rest of their terms. I keep hoping the Republican Party has finally destroyed itself only for it to come back somehow, although if they're going to rebound from the Trump disaster of the past 4 years, I'd really like to see how. And they seem reduced to pathetically weak and stupid attacks on Biden, who nothing seems to stick to. Of course, the same should have been true of President Obama but I think that him being African-American empowered/emboldened the GOP racists. Republicans though are just like zombies and their voting hordes just keep coming at us. We need to be equally vigilant and persistent on our side in every election but so many on our side seem to want to take their ball and go home if they don't get their wishlist in two years.

(19,348 posts)Democrats get two years where they have to jump through hoops and figure out magic code words to get things done. Afterwards the congress reverts to the deplorables.

(24,437 posts)Democrats possess the Infinity Stones (or at least the Mind Stone) and can will anything- but just won't (for cynical reasons)

(19,348 posts)That is cold hard fact. Deplorables vote for everything. Why can't Democrats do the same?

(12,327 posts)He said if Mitch Mc gets back in he would ram through everything in favor of republicans and that is why keeping the filibuster was important and therefore Manchin was right.
That behind closed doors republicans know that President Biden won the elections but in public are afraid to say so.
That the anti-shithole's have an uphill battle.
That the Democrats don't know how to fight the republicans.
My opinion, President Biden and Vice President Harris does.
Overall it was not a favorable discussion concerning the present republicans.
