NYT Columnist Warns People Are Being Lulled Into False Security

Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman on Monday warned of “chilling” developments within the GOP that may have catastrophic consequences for the country.

“We are in real danger here,” Friedman told CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

Friedman said Republicans are coalescing around ex-President Donald Trump’s lies about the election while most people are being “lulled” into false security because of President Joe Biden’s lower-key competence and focus on the coronavirus pandemic.

But “our democracy is as threatened today” as it was when Trump declared his intention to run for office, said Friedman, noting how most Republicans have fallen in step with Trump’s 2020 election lies. Prominent holdouts Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) are the exceptions to the new Republican norm, he noted.

I know that's my feeling. I'm wary of Republicans but I can no longer spend every waking moment obsessing over what they might do next.

We should give ample credit to Biden and the Democratic Party, and appreciate the extraordinarily positive developments of the past few months. We've made it through a lot of dark days and nights. There's nothing wrong with taking time to look around and appreciate the view.

Almost everyone in the QOP are tremendous cowards. They're terrified of Trumpy's tweets. They're terrified of the bottom of the barrel, low-life racist/white supremacist battle boys wearing camo like a second skin. Most of all, they're terrified of losing their phoney-balonie jobs, and all the graft and grift that comes with them.

They're cowards masquerading as tough guys/gals, and they're not above accepting foreign help to stay right where they are. They'd sell their own mothers into sex slavery just to keep those jobs, and I'm sure Matt Gaetz already has.

Tom clearly didn't notice how any Republicans who said a discouraging word about Rush Limbaugh was on his show within 24 hours to backpedal. Nor congressional Republicans phalanx-like lockstep voting. Anyone who broke off and treated with "the enemy" (Democrats) would be punished.
