(99,711 posts)I was living in South Florida on a temporary basis during the Summer of 2010 but my home address was in Central Florida. This was when Charlie was running for the Senate. I needed to renew my drivers license but it was virtually impossible to get through to schedule an appointment. I called up Governor Crist's office and told them my plight. They had the manager of the drivers' license office in Fort Lauderdale call me and set up an appointment and I should ask for the manager and he'll personally walk me through the process.
That's constituent service.

(43,198 posts)I worry there might be a "Been there, done that" with him for some, but I like him. He was decent governor even as a Republican.
I actually prefer him slightly to Fried but she's got the inside edge as the only current statewide elected Dem. Either one I'd vote for in a heart beat.

(914 posts)It's been that way for twenty or so years. Each time we have someone who could do it they end up moving on their own political ambitions. We are in a bad spot in Florida. Our issue is organization.
I like Crist. Voted for him. He is my representative. The Crist of today is worlds different than the Crist of ten years ago.
Any Democrat right now is going to struggle against DeathSantis. It's not about the person. It's about the organization.
Additionally, someone best get into Dade County to figure out what the f is going on. The Proud Boys are turning the youth of the area against us, there was no real investigation into the clearly shady vote there in the last election, and we have taken the area for granted.

(4,167 posts)The party supported Meek...that election was a hot mess...Crist should have ran as a Democrat that election and not a Republican....if he did, there would be a Senator Crist right now instead of a Senator Rubio

(914 posts)Crist actually decided that year to not run for reelection for governor. Kendrick Meek won the Democratic Primary for Senator handily. Meek was outspent like five to one and still won. Crist decided to enter the senators race as an NPA candidate against Meeks and Rubio. At one point Crist was polling ahead of Rubio in the Republican Primary. During that time Crist remained registered as a Republican but ran NPA.
The party failed Meek tremendously.

(4,167 posts)So all the election fraud claims is probably because the have a great cheating apparatus in Florida....And how convenient for them that the most Republican area in the state is on a different time zone and the polls close later...they know exactly what they need to win

(914 posts)Of any population center was Dade County. Trump didn't win it but the swing was in his favor. Drastic difference from previous elections and far outside of any norms. Republicans gained more votes in Dade County than damn near vote in the panhandle. Not that your point about the panhandle isn't on point.
USAFRetired_Liberal
(4,167 posts)They are cheating everywhere in Florida and your point on Dade County is on point, too....something was also fishy about the 2018 Governor and Senate races....I think that when Obama won in 2008 and 2012, they decided to make sure that wouldnt happen again

(4,167 posts)He lost the last two statewide races he has ran in....Better to try for re-election in the house....his district is a swing district and the Democrats cant afford to lose it

(16,185 posts)the pukes are going to run the same old "been in government all his life, and can't make up his mind" campaign against him.
Nikki Fried does have name recognition and I'd vote for either her or Charlie but I wish David Jolly would become a true Democrat instead of an independent and run for us.
And as someone else said, we need organization.

(15,476 posts)DeSantis' best chance to be defeated was when he ran last time. He was much more unpopular then.

(26,137 posts)Fried or Demmings may have a shot, especially Nikki Fried. I would say Graham would take it, but she accepted a position in Biden's Administration.
In It to Win It
(8,283 posts)Andrew Gillum did it back in 2018. BUT that is an edge that Charlie Crist, being a previous governor, has over Val Demmings (for now). Charlie isn't my first choice but I wouldn't count him out over Val Demmings.

(52,166 posts)but he was horridly anti LGBT as governor. I have to say he would be a hard sell for me in a primary based on that.
