SO Sick Of Clueless Business Owners

Just saw yet another stupid news story about clueless business owners claiming they can't find employees to hire because people are receiving too much unemployment.

This has been debunked TWICE.

Nevermind almost 700 people are still dying every day.

We’ve had a couple of restaurants independently launch sign on bonuses and referral incentives and raise the minimum wage for the workers. Seems to be working! The same consumers and business owners who spew this garbage are the same ones who don’t tip worth a shit, and don’t want to pay their employees. Period. Let’s of course not forget the same assholes who think Covid-19 is a “hoax” or “no worse than the flu”.

They are talking like, "We don't know if we can afford" (to pay more) Well, dumbass you can't afford to not have employees can you? What a great way to ruin your business but to not serve your patrons.

larger businesses, who are able to capitalize on economies of scale, can pay wages the little guys can't match today.

Need to change the corporate tax model to shift advantages back to the little guys

6. I think you shouldn't be in business if you can't pay your employees a living wage.

You shouldn't be using the US government to pay your employee's medical and food in the form of Medicaid and Food stamps.

Plenty of seasonal / weekend food or entertainment businesses fall in this category.

I worked many a summer at the local drag strip, and keep in touch with one of the owners. $15 an hour will bankrupt them and every other track they talk with.

Almost all their employees work one or two days a week (they're only open weekends), and do it for some side money and to get paid to spend time outdoors around neat racecars. Rainy weekend? They're closed and workers get no hours.

This topic is a lot more complex than is being addressed in the proposals to fix it.

people squirm when they have to face the magic of the labor marketplace. Workers have been dealing with it forever, with depressed wages. Now that people have had a taste of a living wage (or something closer to it) the labor market demands higher wages.

If I was Emperor of Earth I'd take it further. I'd PAY people to experiment with lifestyles having a very small environmental footprint, reducing any incentive they might have to seek conventional employment. We would judge the success of these experiments in terms of happiness.

Most people suffer jobs that are not making the world a better place.

This thing we now call economic "productivity" isn't productivity at all. It is, in fact, a direct a direct measure of the damage we are doing to the earth's biosphere and our own human spirit.

1. Trickle Down Economics - The republicans gave the ultra wealthy a $3+/- trillion tax break. The tax savings were to "trickle down"; please ask the small business owners to use this "trickle down" to pay the employees.

2. Deporting Mexicans, Etc - The republicans deported the best work force (Mexicans, etc), tell small business owners to fight for the Dream Act and allow Mexicans, etc to enter America.

3. Due unto others - Employers laid off employees even though they had access to PPP loans....it was an employers business decision. Now, employees are staying home, not paying day care, gas, etc....it is an employees business decision.

These stories are useless for claiming unemployment insurance is too high.

When unspecified jobs go unfilled in part-time and seasonal and uncertain or dangerous times, it means that taking the job doesn't result in a better life.
A guaranteed roof over one's head and food in the belly, even with unlimited NetFlix, will likely not motivate folk to apply for slavery.

Scheduling can be harder than budgeting for the marginally-supported in morally-sickened societies.
