1. There is a big problem

If anyone can make the vaccine and sell it there is a good chance some batches will be contaminated. Then news reports of a hundred deaths may cause fifty million to avoid getting vaccinated. Better is to just pay Pfizer enough money for them to just massively increase production in their quality controlled facilities and hand it out free.

2. Patents are not the only hurdle to marketing

There is an extremely rigorous approval process any generic must satisfy.

We can pay for it and know they are safe.

many of the safe and effective generic drugs that Americans take every day. Allowing them to have the vaccine formulas and manufacture them in their facilities would help immensely with the problem of getting vaccines to lower income nations more quickly.
