I get we have a very slim chance of taking the Flordia governorship in 2022 but Charlie Crist I would argue we would lose worse with him. We lost to Rick Scott with him. He was a republican not that long ago and an independent. I think we have a much better chance with Nikki Fried or Val Demings in my opinon.

I actually like Charlie Crist personally a little better than Nikki Fried, but Fried has the inside track as the only current statewide elected Democrat. Problem with Crist is the "also ran" perception.
I'll gladly take either over DeSantis, naturally.

(8,685 posts)And has never been a typical Republican when he was a Republican. He was and is still very popular in FL. I think he has a good chance to win although Val Demmings would be an interesting candidate. I would like to see some polling to help understand what the electorate wants there. Florida is a tough nut to crack for Democrats but Crist might be able to do it.
Also the election against Scott in 2014 was quite close. Crist nearly pulled it off. If he can get Democrats excited, he could win this.

(31,877 posts)Wins the line - and Democratic Party voters in Florida want him as the candidate - - then it is what it is.
I think he would have a good chance.

(26,757 posts)We have comparatively few candidates who are competitive statewide... and DeSantis is a critical target (else he's going to cause nationwide problems two years later)... plus there are the senate seats in 2022 and 2024.

(149 posts)I'm passingly familiar with FL politics, but I have lots of family and friends there, etc., and I just don't get the sense that Demings is especially popular across the state - not necessarily un-popular but even so, race still matters in lots of places where the Dems need to make inroads. I've been wrong lots, and will keep tuned, but that's the way it looks to me right now. Crist seems like a desperate attempt at a "gotcha" to the Republicans from statewide people who have no idea what to do next. Fried has the best, most recent success statewide of the names I've heard as solid possibilities.

Maybe you should address your concerns to Christ while he's assessing his chances. Tell him they're very bad.
