The Arizona Senate is ditching its controversial measure to knock on doors and ask Arizona residents about their voting history. According to AZCentral, Senate President Karen Fann (R) on Friday penned a letter U.S. Department of Justice detailing the decision.
The ditch effort comes as federal officials expressed concern about how the canvassing could infringe upon residents' civil rights and the laws enacted to put a stop to voter intimidation.

(22,100 posts)Americans' cast ballots (we vote in private polling booths, our votes are supposed to be secret), how are these thugs matching up cast ballots w/ going around and asking people whom they voted for? If such a thug came to my door and asked me about my voting history and / or pattern, I'd tell them to go take a flying leap off the nearest 10 story building.

(82,849 posts)But put yourself in the shoes of a voter who may know or share living space with an undocumented friend or relative. Some official-looking yahoos show up at your door with a lot of pointed questions about your vote. Maybe they've got some official identification that they flash. They hint around (or just say outright) that by not cooperating with this Official State Business, you could be cited for some legal-sounding argle-bargle. They've got your name and address, and while you're not in a legally precarious situation, people you know are. You might not want to tell them to buzz off if you think it means your buddy or your cousin or your aunt will be discovered and deported.

(22,100 posts)many immigrants in STLMO so I'm well aware of such situations as well as having an EX (now decreased) that had family members that were here illegally. The rule was to be silent, not let anyone else know anything more than they needed to. And why not? It's no one's business but their own business. I still plan on telling any such persons knocking on my door and questioning my vote to f*** off.

(16,157 posts)I dont live in Arizona but I will say..dont even think of asking me about my voting history. Even when we did the get out to vote campaigns, we never asked their intentions or history. These people need to be educated before theyre putting such plans in action. We, on the other hand, need to keep vigilant n turn em in.

(16,352 posts)I still don't understand why this fake "audit" farce was ever allowed in the first place, and I thought the headline meant the whole thing was being called off.
Don't get me wrong, I am VERY relieved that they won't be knocking on people's doors. However, that doesn't make the rest of it any less offensive and ridiculous. I've yet to hear a coherent explanation of why it was ever allowed or how it isn't grossly illegal to violate the sanctity of an election in such an irresponsible manner. OR why a whole bunch of people aren't going to jail for this.

(43,120 posts)Look at it this way. It's all be counted by proper authorities. It's kosher.
So they do an audit of an honest count.
This idea that Trump watermarked some ballots. That's a lie. So is the bamboo.
Now that those ideas are floating around, all they have to do it insert 24 bamboo ballots, and say they found NO watermarks. Then they announce it's all crooked. How do they know?
They found bamboo, and the watermarks that were never there but they told us were there are .... ready? MISSING!!!
Now they've got more manufactured fakery to feed to the MAGAT maggots.
Every time Trump loses, he creates a fake reality to support his position. The Chinese did it. Import dirt from overseas. Lost watermarks. It's all the same coin.

big bag of corn flakes. Not like the Chicago-style Republicans he's used to. He's not too happy with the lax firearm laws out there, either.
