The last timeline of Ayn Rand, Reagan et al, was so informative.
I read all of Rand in HS, but none of it rattled or took hold of me. I knew some of this unsettling stuff, but now my knowledge is more nearly complete.
A brother-in-law mentioned her back in the 70's in conversation. Well, presently that makes sense having that come back in my remembrance. If you gather what I mean. 🤨
Thanks again. I emailed Thom's website to my neighbor buddy. He 'leans' with 'us', but didn't know much of it. We shall go onward, upward and persist.

(28,367 posts)That Thom has read at the very least, portions of at least three of my posts on his radio show. One program began with him reading my post. I cant recall what it was about but it was a series of great honors.

(21,204 posts)dependence on immigrants for agricultural labor. Over 50% of our agricultural laborers are undocumented. Without them, we would starve - PERIOD.

(22,343 posts)Decades ago, a landscaping job sent two workers. One Caucasian, one South American. The white guy made some derogatory comments about the other. I think not fluent in English so he wouldn't know what was said. That set my teeth on edge big-time. I responded with something, but dint want to go full on what I wanted to say.
The orangeous one and his ilk really crapped it up further by giving license for many to come out from the pit. So sickening.

He then read my book and gave it a great critique on his show, so I'll always have a good spot in my heart for him, even when we disagree on things.

(60,186 posts)We spent three weeks here in New York City with our daughter and her husband and new baby boy. My sister and her husband came in from the wilds of New Jersey numerous times, too. Other than two dinners with our son-in-law's folks, a few trips to my outfit's NYC office, we saw no other friends or relatives. We were here for family, and pretty much stuck to that. Tomorrow--back down to Dallas and back on over to Germany on the weekend.

His ma spoke enough fluently, but not like their parents.
I'd eat almost anything, but that korv? Ah, I din't. Dad would make his pickled herring for the Christmas 'groaning table'. I loved that, then rubbed my face as a kitty cat would clean its whiskers.
Husband made faces at the herring and say, "Yuck, how can you eat that?!"

I'm no "korvälskare" either, though in my student days, I confess to have smoothed my budget's edges with the odd "korv med lök och senap" when necessity dictated.

(60,186 posts)Ukrainian is closer to Polish and Czech than it is to Russian--linguistically, anyway. Political realities make it prudent for modern day Ukies to know Russian, but that is a proximity born of necessity, not linguistics.

(58,785 posts)in the past. Remember, Russia was and is at war with America. That it's undeclared doesn't mean it's not so.
We need to be careful about assuming a change of heart in people who once spread spread Russian agitprop to demoralize and defeat Democrats. Even if it happened, would Russia allow it? Many assets are too compromised and too useful to let go. This one's been added to our DirecTV lineup, as have OAN and Newsmax, and now seen increasingly on DU.
The battle for power is enormous. Everyone's scrabbling for control of our minds and our voting power.
