Texting with a gal pal who lives a few houses away. She and her hubby were not sure it was an earthquake.

(149,619 posts)One fairly large jolt and a couple of little jiggles around that.
It was apparently about 3.6 on the Richter Scale and was about 14 km. deep.

(149,619 posts)You really get used to them and realize that nothing bad will happen.
I've been through a couple of big ones and those are a lot scarier.
Our earthquake building standards have gotten very rigorous and unless it's a huge quake right under the house, we will probably be OK.

I was in San Francisco with the Loma Prieta Earthquake hit at 6.9 in 1989
My wife & I were driving home and we were on a cloverleaf off ramp, when it hit.
It felt like the earth was moving under the car that we though it was 4 flat tires.

I would've guessed it was stronger on the Richter Scale. It felt pretty big to me although nothing fell off of the wall or shelves....

I find earthquakes fascinating! Always loved geology too.

(3,167 posts)We've been getting a lot of jolts from the Newport-Inglewood Fault in recent years. This one felt a little like that. It could have been the same fault Our backyard patio looks like a jigsaw puzzle these days. LOL!

But then, I'm the person who slept through an even stronger aftershock of the Northridge earthquake in 1994.
