Gas lines in Eastern NC.

I just got a frantic text from my sister. She's trying to find gas. We're in coastal NC and things aren't looking good.

Is there or isn't there a gas shortage?

Is this just an opportunity for the big energy companies to "teach us a lesson" like you're going to miss me when you're moving to renewable energy and can't find a gallon of gas?

Or is it an opportunity for them to price gouge?

Or are people panic buying?

I'm so frustrated and now worried. I haven't been anywhere significant for over a year. I've literally kept one tank since then, which is now halfway gone. Of course, now that I have to go somewhere, I don't have enough gas to get me there.

Does anyone have any information that can be shared about this? Thanks in advance.

The computers and information has been hacked from this company, they cannot control the gas line.

The pipeline that serves the entire SE is down and won't be up until at least tomorrow. That is why there's no gas there.

It's not a shortage. It's a temporary distribution disruption.

Drove from Parkersburg to Asheville area, through WV, KY, VA, TN and NC. The only place with gas lines backing up ten and twelve cars deep into oncoming traffic, creating accidents and bigger clusters is...NC. Prices were stable on both ends of the trip, with maybe 10¢ increase.

Station near my house backed up, but Sam's across town had less than ten cars total, and was still $2.69 at 10 this morning.

The idiots topping off and bringing their 55 gallon drums are might be overreacting.

YMMV

I add that to my lawn mower gas stash every year. I never had a need to use it in a vehicle.

Without having a negative impact. That impact can range from minor to major depending on certain factors.

So sorry you had something planned after so long and that gas ends up being a concern.

Look for them to get past the initial shortage quickly. It’s going to be compounded by people filling up and topping off.

The gas station across the street had 8 cars at the pumps and 29 cars parked on the street waiting their turn. Yes, I counted them.
We have almost full tanks in our 2 cars so we won't need gas for 3-4 weeks.

There are gas lines here in the upstate SC area. They were saying on the news NOT to top off or hoard gas. Whenever they say that, that is the signal for everybody to do that very thing.

The actual disruption is basically a software problem, so I'm going to wait this one out.

I have never seen lines like this. Every gas station with gas had cars lined up out to and often into the roads they are on. It is quite something.

Double whammy on the east coast, sorry to say. Add to that, massive panic purchases before anyone could get a handle on the situation and locals could ration to cover the situation.. With the Pipeline down until later this week, even if they could get strategic reserves opened up, transporting the gas to the distribution centers can only be done by truck or train.

With all that's happening politically, it's only one top story today. Best to your sister. I spent a lot of time in NC when my grandmother retired there, beautiful area, but she was in the West - Black Mountain near Asheville.
