(12,354 posts)I have NO DOUBT that a GOP House would impeach Biden THREE TIMES in 2023.
And the effort will be lead by Speaker Donald Trump.
So yeah... GOTV.

(12,354 posts)It would give him a front row seat to trolling DEMS... he'd love it AND it's an excuse why he wouldn't run in '24.

(4,616 posts)The dogs of retribution will impeach President Biden repeatedly. Even though we'll also lose the Senate, Biden will remain safe (they won't get to 67 votes). However, the people's agenda will stall, a re-empowered McConnell will see to that, with negative fallout for us in the 2024 Presidential election (normal naive 'blame the incumbents' at that point).
You don't think those things we value are at risk? Like free speech, social security and medicare, equality of opportunity (not that we have that now), fairness in taxation, etc.? This risk will be much amplified if we lose Congress and then the Presidency.
If you don't see our democracy hanging on by a thread, well. Let me recommend Levitsky and Ziblatt, How Democracies Die. It's a good read. The parallels with other failed democracies are more than alarming. We are already quite a bit down that road.

(90,301 posts)... suppression works to bend elections in favor of those implementing it

(9,998 posts)They're not going to get 1 repub to vote for it, let alone 10.
I see Zero chance of it happening, and a good chance that we're going to lose the House in 2022.
How can democrats pass voting rights ?. Its not eligible for reconciliation as its not budget related, so the only way it can pass is if the filibuster is repealed.

(19,948 posts)Republicans got rid of the filibuster for SC judges. I'm heartened by Jeff Merkleys interview with Rachel last night, but time is not in Democrats side...

(17,370 posts)There is no path for the bill to pass, Democrats will be prepared to fight in whatever environment we face.

This is their life, their work, and they've been battling it for years while most people refused to pay attention or listen to their warnings and attempts to inform, appalling numbers soaking up Republican and Russian propaganda.

(32,705 posts)Will not go along with that, so the effort may fail. They will never reach 2/3 in the senate.
Biden will remain popular so it may actually help, it certainly helped Clinton. Its sad because they have zero grounds.
Many of the voter suppression laws are currently facing legal challenges and will be struck down in the courts. At least the most egregious parts. Its up to us voting right bill or not. Volunteer, donate and do what you can
Keep the house blue in 22!! Pass it on

(4,616 posts)I hope you're right. However, I see a lot of 6-3 decisions in our future.

(58,785 posts)the poll results that show Individual One is very unpopular with Republican voters (not just right leaning indies!) in the swing states they must win. And won't.
Also that our Democratic policies are in general popular with half their voters.
They may be starting to realize backing Trump, because they thought that was how to win, was actually like trying to make a deal with the Devil. Never done it myself, but if they smirk contemptuously at betraying promises, just imagine The Father of Lies.

(7,447 posts)1. it's not effective in making what you want to happen, actually happen. You can't pass this bill by reconciliation, and Manchin and Sinema ain't going to overrule the Parliamentarian. And it ain't getting 60 votes. So it's pretty much impossible.
2. Saying this knowing it almost assuredly won't pass is effectively signalling to millions of voters, don't bother coming out in 2022, we can't win anyways.
If you want to give up, fine, give up, but stop encouraging others to give up. And by you, I mean anyone who buys into this whole apocalypse if we don't pass HR 1 baloney.
